The Frog Key will be in the ponds, but you actually have to wait a few days before you can even start this task. As soon as you can, go to the fishing cabin and grab the Old Rod, since you'll need it.

Once daylight hits and the text says that something is emerging from the pond, you'll know it's time. You'll also hear a bunch of frogs jumping out of the water. Every pond will now have at least one or two frogs guarding them. There are three types:

  • Green Frogs - don't harm you a lot and are actually dead when you kill them
  • Blue Frogs - bigger and have a larger health pool. Once you defeat one, it will turn into two Green Frogs
  • Purple Frog - largest of the batch, biggest amount of health and turns into two Blue Frogs when defeated.

Frog Keys aren't in every pond. Go around as you stoke the campfire and increase the map, until you find one with a key marker in the water. Aim for the marker and keep fishing until you get the Frog Key. You will need to get a total of eight keys to open the portal.

After the third or fourth Day, a bigger pond will spawn near the campfire. It is protected by several smaller frogs along with one big Purple Frog. Defeat them all for safe passage, and you can jump into the whirlpool in the middle of the pond. Once down, you'll see a huge door with eight key holes. This is where you'll use the collected eight Frog Keys to unlock the door and fight the Frog King.

How to Defeat the Frog King

Once you're through the gate, you will first encounter the regular Green Frogs. Once you killed them, the Blue Frogs will spawn (do you sense a pattern here?). After those, you'll defeat a Purple Frog, and finally, you'll encounter the Red Frog King. Once you defeat it, you will get the achievement as well as some good rewards (an abundance of food as well).

What do You Get for Defeating the Frog King?

Defeating the Frog King will give you lots of meat, but also you'll find a chest in this area. Since you've unlocked th gates, you'll also now be able to fish in the ponds. You can get:

  • Poison Spear - 3% chance
  • Poison Armor - 1% chance
  • Blowdart - 1% chance
  • Frog Boots - 1% chance

Frog Invasion FAQ

What do I use the Frog Key for?

The Frog Key is used to unlock the gates in the pond whirlpool. This pond spawns near the campfire and has a large purple frog guarding it, so you can't miss.

Can I eat the frogs?

Yes, you can eat the frogs once you've killed them. You'll get a morsel or two out of them, just like with rabbits. The major difference is that rabbits try to run away, while frogs chase you down and attack you with their tongues.

What do you get from defeating the Frog King?

You'll get access to new armor pieces and weapons added in the Frog Invasion update.
