Farming, surprisingly, has layers in Build an Island that can be a little overwhelming for newer players. We have prepared this in-depth Build an Island farming guide for you so that you can know which crops are worth planting and investing your precious gold in.
Complete Farming Guide in Build an Island
There are various seeds in Build an Island that you can buy from the merchant. His stock refreshes every 5 minutes, so make sure that you check out what he has to offer. Since the stock is random, you might not get the seeds you are looking for, so you'll just have to keep buzzing around him until he has what you want.

Best Seeds to Purchase

During the early game, the best seeds to get are the strawberries and tomatoes. However, once you set up your garden and start having a good income, cherries and starfruits are a good source of income. If you are lucky and get their rare variants, you can earn a lot of gold.
The only downside to cherries and starfruits is that their growth speed is very slow. This makes the waiting process quite long. However, worry not because you can increase the growth speed of crops at the Upgradesman. With expanding the island you'll also get more farm plot, so you can get a variety of crops.
How to Increase Growth

Some of the crops take a long time to grow. This is especially true for late-game crops like cherries, starfruit, peach, and more. To increase the growth speed of crops, you can upgrade 'Crop Growth' from the Upgradesman. Every time you upgrade, you increase the speed by 0.05%. While this doesn't sound like much, it adds up after a few upgrades.
You can also craft a 'Growth Potion' with 100 bamboo planks and 8 tomatoes. This will speed up the growth of most of your crops. Combine this with the upgrades, and you'll be running back and forth from the Merchant to your crops.
How to Remove Crops
Corn is a one-time crop, which means that once you harvest it, the plot is clear. However, to remove crops like Strawberries and Apple trees in Build an Island, you have to use a Shovel. Keep expanding in the area of your first garden, and you'll eventually bump into the Shovel shack.
Interact with the building to pick up the shovel. Equip it and weed out the crops you don't want to have in your garden anymore. There is limited garden space after all and not all crops will make the cut.
