Command An Army is a siege-based Roblox experience where you get to command your own army based on unit slots and their star ratings. Your Star Limit, a hard cap on the combined star value of everything you can equip at once, so every unit you slot much be worth their value. So, to help you determine that, this tier list covers all 25 units in the currently in game, based on both raw power and Star Limit value.

How Do We Rank Units in Our Command An Army Tier List?

We have ranked all the units based across four criteria. Raw combat value and staying power in a fight as baseline. Star Limit cost is also weighted in because an expensive unit that locks out two cheaper ones can hurt your overall formation. Versatility across both attack and defense is also a major factor. + Deals huge damage from charges and is an overall well balanced unit type if played correctly.
Immortal
[★★★★]
Summon Banner+ Immortal matches Spartan in offensive power and prolonged fights.
+ Has by far the highest offensive output and can shred through most units, especially unarmored ones.
+ Can be squishy if on frontline, but unbeatable if attacking from flanks and ambushes.
Samurai
[★★★★]
Summon Banner+ Samurai is a strong and well armored unit with great DPS output.
+ Can survive long fights and deals solid charge damage if placed properly.
+ Can last on the frontline against most units and can tank against archers and crossbows as well.
Lancer
[★★★★]
Evolution+ Lancers are the strongest mounted units currently in the game.
+ Deal the highest charge damage across all units, and are unbeatable in plain terrain fights.
+ Can be weak if cornered, but can shred through most unarmed frontline units.

Which Units Are A Tier in Command An Army?

UnitSourceWhy This Tier
Berserker
[★★★★]
Summon Banner+ Berserkers have one of the highest DPS outputs across all units in the game.
+ Deal huge damage, especially when charging and are ideal for taking out other players
- Have almost no defense on them, making it easy to take out with ranged units.
Mace
[★★★]
Summon Banner+ Mace has the best-rounded stat spread with strong HP, solid damage, and good unit speed.
+ Relatively easier to pull in comparison to 4★ units and provides good value in any matchup.
- Has low attack speed in comparison to other frontline units and has a lackluster charge.
Knight
[★★★]
Evolution+ Knight is the dedicated line breaker in the roster ideal for charging, and no other unit does that job as cleanly.
+ Knight is also the endpoint of Mercenary's evolution path, which gives it double value as both a summon and an upgrade goal.
- Takes a long time to get one Knight unit, and isn't worth the grind in the late game.
Imperial Wall
[★★★]
Evolution+ Imperial Wall are by far the best defensive unit in the game with a huge HP pool and Shield.
+ If placed in Hold formation, can defend against any unit and tank all sorts of ranged attacks.
- Takes a long time to evolve from Shieldman, and severely lacks in offensive output.
Cavalryman
[★★★]
Evolution+ One of the only few mounted units in the game, with a strong charge attack.
+ Can evolve into the Lancer Unit (S-tier) and deals good damage in open terrain.
- Takes a long time to evolve and is situational to play, especially in closed areas.
Spear Vanguard
[★★★]
Evolution+ Spear Vanguard are one of the more balanced units with solid offense and defense.
+ Has good range on attacks with spears and perform exceptionally in formations.
- Lack in charging and are better at defensive plays than offense.

Which Units Are B Tier in Command An Army?

UnitSourceWhy This Tier
Scout Rider
[★★]
Summon Banner+ Scout Rider is the fastest unit in the roster and the best flanker available.
+ Scout Rider evolves into Lancer through Cavalryman, which improves its ceiling and makes it more late game viable.
- Extremely easy to counter with hold formations and spear units.
Crossbowman
[★★★]
Summon Banner+ Crossbowman provides reliable backline damage and has better range than Archer.
+ It works well in the right formation and is wasted outside of one.
- Completely dependent on a frontline to function and collapses without a shieldwall to defend it.
Elite Javelineer
[★★★]
Evolution+ Elite Javelineer provides block damage, and range making it genuinely useful behind a shield line.
+ Provides solid ranged support with better damage and accuracy in comparison to archers and crossbows.
- However, Javelineer does not change the outcome of a fight the way A Tier units do and are sitting ducks in close range.
Imperial Halberder
[★★★]
Evolution+ Imperial Halberder have solid HP and block damage but less versatility than Javelineer.
+ Have one of the highest unit damage across 3★ units, and are useful buffers inbetween unit swaps.
- Fine as a secondary defensive unit but cannot perform well as a primary carry unit.
Sentinel
[★★]
Evolution+ One of the strongest 2★ defensive units with huge HP pool.
+ Comes equipped with a good shield ideal for forming shield walls for ranged units behind.
- Lacks in offensive output and unless if played without any backline ranged damage dealer.
Squire
[★★]
Evolution+ The squire is a balanced 2★ unit with decent offense and defense.
+ Can evolve into the Knight (A Tier), and provides decent value in mid to late game.
- Lacks in comparison to other melee units, usable as a buffer inbetween unit swaps.
Spear Militia
[★★]
Summon Banner+ Spear Militia is decent 2★ unit good at defensive plays, especially countering mounted units and charges.
+ Can evolve in to the Spear Vanguard (A Tier) providing better value at later stages of the game.

+ Longbowman can be evolved from Archers and have better range and DPS.
- Easy to kill in melee, and weak overall in comparison to higher tier ranged units,
Pikeman
[★★]
Evolution+ Good for stopping unit charges and at defensive formations.
+ Decent DPS and HP pool for 2★ unit.
- Usable in certain situations or as a buffer between unit swaps.

Which Units Are C Tier in Command An Army?

UnitSourceWhy This Tier
Mercenary
[★]
Starter/Summon Banner+ Mercenary is the weakest combat unit in the roster in base form, but it evolves into Squire and then Knight.
- Keep Mercenary in your roster not for its performance but because it is the path to Knight.
- Cheap Star cost filler to swap in between core units.
Spearman
[★]
Starter/Summon Banner+ Spearman's specific value is stopping cavalry charges.
- Outside of that matchup, Spearman underperforms against most other unit types.
- Only useable as anti-cavalry or Star budget reasons.
Archer
[★]
Starter/Summon Banner+ Archer is the cheapest ranged option but is outranged and outperformed by other ranged units in every relevant situation.
- Evolves into Longbowman, which improves its value by some amount.
- Only useable as a filler unit kept for Star budget and evolution progress.
Halberder
[★]
Summon Banner+ Deals decent damage for a 1★ unit, but dies fairly quickly.
- Can evolve into Imperial Halberder, but that doesnt improve it much.
- Usable as a early to mid game filler unit.
Shieldman
[★]
Summon Banner+ Decent defensive unit to create shieldwall for backline units.
- Has almost no offensive value, and situationally useful
- Takes a long time to evolve into Sentinel (B Tier).
Javelineer
[★]
Summon Banner+ Javelineer is a decent 1★ ranged unit, but very situational
- Does not perfom well without support or shieldwall.
- Usable as a early to mid game filler unit.

How Do You Ascend Units in Command An Army?

Ascension in Command An Army

Ascension is the system for strengthening units you already own using duplicate copies. When a banner pull or reward gives you a unit you already have, you can use it in Ascension. Combining two copies of the same unit raises its Ascension level and makes that single troop permanently stronger.

Generally, the Ascension and evolution system work in tandem. You should evolve your starter units up their lines while ascending the summon units you have already committed to, and you build a balanced roster.

WARNING: Ascending units in Command An Army resets their level. So, when ascending, make sure you recheck the levels of your units before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why can't I equip a unit I just pulled in Command An Army?

Your Star Limit is too low for that unit's star cost. You cannot equip any troop that would push your combined loadout past the cap. Your Star Limit rises as your account level increases.

What is the best four-unit loadout in Command An Army?

The strongest theoretical loadout is Spartan, Immortal, Mace, and Knight or Shieldman, but your Star Limit determines whether you can field that combination simultaneously. A feasible loadout for most account levels is one S or A Tier unit, one role-specific body like Shieldman or Spear Militia for defense or Immortal for attack, and two cheap C Tier starters to fill slots. As your limit rises, swap the cheap filler bodies for stronger alternatives.

Should you pull on the Standard Banner or save gems in Command An Army?

Save gems until you have at least enough for several consecutive pulls. Single pulls on a 0.08% rate for Spartan or Immortal are very low. You can also redeem all available codes first to get free gems.
