99 Nights in the Forest added tons of new stuff to explore with the Jungle Biome update. Introducing ancient ruins and dangerous new enemies, this tropical region has lots of things for you to explore. But with so many things, it can be quite overwhelming to figure out how to explore correctly without missing anything. So, if you want to survive this region and claim all the new rare loot, here’s everything you need to know about the Jungle Biome in 99 Nights in the Forest.
How to Unlock the Jungle Biome in 99 Nights in the Forest

To unlock the Jungle Biome in 99 Nights in the Forest, you need to first upgrade your Campfire to Level 3. Once fully upgraded, the biome becomes accessible during your run. You can easily know you’ve entered the Jungle when the grass below turns significantly darker.
Moreover, large tropical plants and broad-leaf vegetation appear, and the jungle-biome exclusive mobs begin spawning. Do note that upgrading your campfire is a mandatory progression to unlock the entirety of the biome, so focus on maxxing it out early if your goal is to explore the Jungle quickly.
Ancient Temple Location in 99 Nights in the Forest

The Ancient Temple is the main attraction of the Jungle Biome update, part 1. Each run contains one Ancient Temple inside the Jungle Biome. The structure is large and easy to identify due to its stone pyramid-like design and big staircases.
The temple has two major exploration areas, which are the top Platform that contains a regular or Tier 2 chest and is guarded by Jungle Cultists. You should first defeat enemies before claiming loot.
Then there's also the underground interior of the temple. You need to enter it through stairways and then go through the long corridor filled with poison dart traps. This leads to an altar containing the Crystal Skull Key
Be careful. Once you take the Crystal Skull Key, the temple begins collapsing, and you need to escape immediately using the rope exit. You cannot re-enter once you claim the key and leave.
Ancient Temple Rewards
The Ancient Temple provides some of the best mid-game loot available in the Jungle Biome. These are all the possible rewards that you can find in the Ancient Temple of the Jungle Biome:
- Jungle Biome-themed Chests
- Tier 2 Chests
- Coal and Fuel Resources
- Poison Claws (New Weapon)
- Blow Pipe
- Crystal Skull Key
The Poison Claws are a new melee weapon found exclusively in this biome and apply poison damage to enemies.
How to Get the Crystal Skull Key in 99 Nights in the Forest

The Crystal Skull Key is found at the altar inside the Ancient Temple. To obtain it, you need to enter the temple through one of the stair entrances and carefully dodge the poison floor traps in the corridor. Make your way to the altar at the end and interact with the Crystal Skull Key to claim it.
Be aware that grabbing the key immediately triggers poison arrow traps, and the temple begins collapsing right away. Once you escape, you cannot re-enter the temple. The Crystal Skull Key is confirmed to be used in Part 2 of the Jungle update, so be sure to keep it safe for future content.
Every Mob in Jungle Biome & How to Counter Them
The Jungle Biome has added three new enemies that you can encounter. Here's a list of all of these mobs and how to deal with them:
| Mob | Behavior | How to Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Boars | Aggressive mobs that chase on sight | Keep distance and use ranged weapons. Tough to outrun. |
| Frogs | Stationary, attack you with tongue and apply poison | Attack from range. Avoid standing directly in front |
| Jungle Cultists | Melee + ranged attackers. Found at temples | Use cover to avoid projectiles. Slay using high-tier weapons. |
