Fisch How to Get Mythical Driftwood

It's a stick.

Mythical Driftwood in Fisch is one of the more challenging materials to obtain, but if you’re aiming to craft the Precision Rod or the Wisdom Rod, you’ll need it. With Driftwood classified as a Trash item, catching its mythical variant can feel like trying to reel in the moon. But don’t worry, this guide covers everything you need to know, from the best locations to foolproof strategies.

Mythical Driftwood Location & Driftwood Stats

Driftwood is a Trash-category material that can be found everywhere in Fisch. It’s a slow-moving, low-rarity item, which was often disregarded in the game as just another item to sell. However, with update 1.08.0 (which brought the Ancient Isle to Fisch's map), Driftwood finally gained an in-game use: crafting fishing rods.

Driftwood’s classification as Trash is both its blessing and its curse. While Driftwood itself is easy to find, its mutated versions are a rare occurrence. Because catching Mythical Driftwood requires a Mythical Rod, which is built for mid- to late-game fishing, the compatibility between the rod and the item is a mismatch. Ironically, this rod's high stats make it less ideal for catching Trash items like Driftwood.

Driftwood also prefers Magnets as bait, which are high-luck bait (+200 luck). However, catching a mutated version relies on RNG (random number generation), making the process long and unpredictable. While Driftwood is technically available anywhere, I've found that Moosewood has proven to be the most reliable location to find it - particularly in Crab Cages.

How to Catch Mythical Driftwood

There are three methods to get Mythical Driftwood in Fisch:

Crab Cages at Moosewood

Moosewood is the best location in Fisch to catch Driftwood, especially if you’re targeting mutated versions. Crab Cages, which are reusable traps, are the most reliable way to gather Driftwood, including its Mythical mutation. You can buy them for 45C$ each, next to the Merchant's booth on Moosewood.

Cage PlacementMoosewood Pond, right-hand dock, or behind the NPC Pierre.
FrequencyCheck cages every 5–10 minutes.
When to UseUse during Mutation Surges for better odds.

You’ll likely pull up standard Driftwood alongside Mythical Driftwood and other mutated types like Lunar or Frozen Driftwood. Crab Cages are cost-effective and provide steady results.

If you’re determined to fish for Mythical Driftwood, here’s what you need:

TimingDuring Mutation Surges for higher mutation rates.

Fishing for Mythical Driftwood is extremely time-consuming, so patience is important. However, this method is more useful if you do it while your Crab Cages work their magic. It's better than standing around doing nothing - if you're forced out of the game due to inactivity (which happens after 20 minutes), you'll lose any Crab Cages you placed.

Appraising Driftwood

If you have a surplus of standard Driftwood, consider using the Appraiser NPC on Moosewood to turn your ordinary Driftwood into a mutated version. This method is costly - each appraisal costs 450C$ - but it guarantees progress. This method is less ideal for early-game players (under level 30) due to the steep cost.

Recommended ForMid- to late-game players with plenty of funds.

There’s a rumor circulating that Garbage bait can help catch Mythical Driftwood. After extensive testing, I can confirm this is false. Garbage bait offers no advantage and decreases lure speed, making your fishing attempts even more tedious. Stick to Magnets for this task!

Mythical Driftwood is used in crafting rods, which unlock more fishing opportunities. The first two crafting recipes below include Mythical Driftwood, alongside the requirements. Under that, I've included recipes that require the other mutated Driftwood versions.
