Mics ready, everyone!

Roblox has teased many forthcoming features during today's Investor Day stream in preparation for the company going public on the stock market this March. One exciting feature briefly touched upon was voice chat.

Is Roblox getting a Voice Chat Feature?

The short answer is yes! In the future, Roblox will be getting voice chat functionality. This will be built on top of the platform's chat message communication. However, don't expect to chat with your friends over a microphone any time soon, as the company plans to build voice chat safely before releasing it to the public.

We have also wondered how exactly Roblox will implement voice chat functionality. Since many Roblox games are quite large, it is still unknown whether or not all voices will be heard no matter the location of the player within the game world. We hope to see some type of proximity chat included, where you only hear the players close to your own location. It would also be helpful to toggle voice chat on and off with the ease of a button!

Should parents worry about voice chat?

Understandably, safety is a major concern when it comes to voice chat features! Roblox prides itself as a safe and kind community for everyone, blocking inappropriate content like profanity and sharing personal information. Reportedly, the company processes two billion chat messages each day.

During the Roblox Investor Day stream, VP of enginnering Adam Miller emphasized how paramount safety is to the Roblox community.

"The goal is to enable and positive communication," Miller says. "Communicating with friends is key to our social experience."

So far, the company has successfully created the necessary infrastructure for positive chat functionality, so we expect Roblox to dedicate the same care toward voice chat.

Roblox did not provide a release window for voice chat.
