The creators of Roblox have planned significant changes for their popular gaming platform that are set to go live on August 7, 2024. However, it seems like not everyone is thrilled about these changes and the community has raised its concerns on social media platforms.
First of all, Roblox recently declared that it will be changing its Privacy Policy that would allow the company to buy, share, and process user information for advertisements. Simply put, Roblox may leverage the game data for advertising purposes, which has raised concerns among the platform’s community.
The company informed the users about this change on July 1, 2024, but the officials have recently stated that they will be finally enforcing this new Privacy Policy starting August 7, 2024. Roblox stated that they comply with all the rules and allow users to manage their data. However, as mentioned before, some fans do not agree with it, especially parents who think that it will allow advertisers to target their kids and exploit them.
However, it should be pointed out that this update only affects users who are 13 years old and over. This entails that the platform cannot sell information of users who are below 13 years of age.
Besides the new Privacy Policy, Roblox is introducing Data Stores V2. This is a new toolset for game creators to manage data. The best part is that Data Stores V2 introduces automatic backups—each time an object is updated, a backup of all objects is created for you.
Last but not least, another Roblox event called Inspire 2024 is planned to launch on August 7, 2024. It's a virtual meeting for creators to connect, learn, and inspire each other. The event also features several challenges for participants, allowing them to earn free cosmetic items, including the Space Cowboy Hat and the Jacket of Inspiration, upon completing the tasks.
