The Basement Map was added to Search For The Needle with the Chapter 2 Update. To complete the Basement Map, you need to:
- Find the Key from the haystack.
- Open a secret room by pulling three levers.
- Solve three puzzles to free the Alien and deactivate the lasers blocking the trapdoor.
- Use the Key to open the trapdoor and escape.
If you’ve found the needle in the haystack and it has been dumped into the Basement by the farmer, you can now play the Basement map in Search For The Needle. The Basement map is a bit more complicated than the Farmhouse map because it involves solving puzzles and finding codes for 100% completion. So, to help you out a little, we’ve put together this complete Search For The Needle Basement walkthrough that’ll tell you how to solve all the puzzles, where to find the final code, and how to escape the basement.
Complete Search For The Needle Basement Map Walkthrough
Unlike the Farmhouse Map, where the sole objective is to find the needle in the haystack, the Basement Map wants you to do a bit more. Here’s a quick look at all the objectives you have to complete to escape the Basement:
- Find the Key in the Haystack
- Pull all the Levers
- Solve 3 Puzzles
The first objective (Find the Key in the Haystack) is straightforward. You need to pick and sell hay until you find it. For the other two, our detailed walkthrough below will help.
Where Are All The Levers in Search For The Needle Basement
The second objective on the Basement Map is to pull all the Levers. There are three levers in total that you need to find and pull. Pulling these levers will open a door that you can use to enter a hidden room.
You’ll find the levers in the following locations:
- Lever 1 (Green) - Behind the haystack. Go to the corner behind the haystack to find the lever near a handful of boxes. Click on it to pull it.
- Lever 2 (Red) - Near the Sell Hay cart. Go towards the Sell Hay cart, and you can find the lever behind the signboard.
- Lever 3 (Purple) - Go towards the area where the Upgrade Bag and Drone equipment is, and you’ll find the final lever on the ground in the corner.
An easier way to spot these levers is to follow the color-coded wires on the ground. Follow the Green wire, and you’ll find the respective lever. The same goes for the Red and Purple wires.
Once you pull all three levers, a small cutscene plays that shows the door opening. You can now enter the hidden room where you’ll have to solve 3 puzzles. Read on to learn how to solve all 3.
How to Solve All 3 Puzzles in Search For The Needle Basement
When you walk into the secret room, you’ll see three different puzzles. You have to solve these puzzles to complete the objective and remove the laser lines blocking the Basement escape door.
Here’s how you solve all the puzzles in the Search For The Needle Basement map.
Crystals Puzzle
On the left side of the room, you’ll see three crystals on three platforms with the number zero written under them. When you click on the number, it increases by one. To solve the puzzle, you need to count the number of colored crystals hanging on the walls and the ceiling of the room and then put that number under the respective crystal.
So, for example, if you see 5 Red Crystals in the room, click on the Red Crystal platform 5 times. Put the right number on all three platforms to solve the Crystals puzzle.
Since the number of crystals is different every run, there’s no single definitive solution to this puzzle. You will have to count the crystals for yourself.
Picture Puzzle
To the right of the entrance, you’ll see a big, distorted picture on your right. The picture has 16 pieces. When you click on a piece, it rotates once. Rotate all the pieces until the big picture matches the small picture shown to the right.
If that one is too small to understand, use the image shown below and recreate it in your game.
Code
Right across the picture puzzle, you’ll see a keypad lock. You have to find and input a four-digit code on this keypad lock. To find the code, you’ll have to skim through the papers scattered across the floor of the secret room.
Pick up the papers one by one, and you’ll eventually find the code. Once you find it, put it into the keypad lock to complete the final puzzle.
Solving all three puzzles will do two things: free the Alien and remove the laser blocking the escape door.
After you find the key and complete all the puzzles, you can now escape the Basement map for 100% completion. Simply equip the key and go up the ladder to escape through the trap door.
[Spoilers!] Search For The Needle Basement Ending
When you escape through the basement trap door, you’ll look around but won’t see the Farmer NPC. Instead, you will see the alien that you freed. When you look towards him, he’ll point towards the sky. And when you look up, you’ll get picked up by a UFO.
What happens inside the UFO? Who is that alien, and why was it stuck inside the Farmer’s Basement? Where is the UFO taking you? All these questions will get answered on September 12, 2026 (when the next Search For The Needle Update drops).
