SpongeBob TD Traits Tier List & Reroll Guide [RELEASE] (January 2025)

Try to get the best traits for your units!

By default, units in SpongeBob Tower Defense come with no traits and only with base stats. So, to make them stronger, it's recommended that one of the eight traits be applied to them. In this guide, we'll provide you with a tier list of all traits in the game, including tips on how to reroll them.

Traits in SpongeBob TD are an excellent way to upgrade units and make them more useful. This is especially important as you can get plenty of rewards by unlocking achievements for each unit. You must play with even the worst units to get Magic Conch, Gems, Coins, and more. That's where Traits help you, especially if you need to get the best ones.

RankingTraits
SSecret Formula, Vortex
AWealth, Scholar
BSurge III, Strike III, Pursuit
C Surge II, Strike II
DSurge I, Reach I, Reach II, Reach III

S Tier: Most Overpowered Traits in SpongeBob TD

If you can get one of these traits for any of your mythic units, this will be the most powerful combo in the game. Of course, you can't put both on a single unit, so spread them between two of your strongest towers.

TraitsEffectsPros/Cons
Secret Formula (0.5%)Doubles the unit's overall damage.Pure damage is always welcome, especially for Legendary and Mythic units.
Vortex (1%)Greatly increases unit's attack speed.Speeding up slow but strong units is a great option. Consider Vortex for support units, too, so they buff/debuff more often.

A Tier: Highly Useful Traits

While damage and speed should be at the top of your priority list when rerolling for traits, upgrade cost and range will be just as important.

TraitsEffectsPros/Cons
Wealth (2.5%)Reduces unit upgrade cost.Cheaper units mean more upgrades for the money you get.
Scholar (12%)Increases unit's XP gain.Improving units is essential as you need them to level up fast, especially in the beginning.

B Tier: Decent Alternatives

Getting top-tier traits is very hard; you'd have to get many Trait Rerolls. But if you get one of these alternatives, you can be happy, as they'll be quite useful.

TraitsEffectsPros/Cons
Surge III (26%*)Increases the unit's attack speed.Speed is always useful, and the fact you'll get it fairly easily is another plus.
Pursuit (6%)Greatly increases unit's range.Range is not the most important stat, so consider replacing it with better ones if you have enough Trait Rerolls. It's still a decent trait, but there are better ones.
Strike III (26%)Increases unit's DMG.More damage is always welcome, especially when your units are Rare or Epic.
* total percentage for all Surge and Strike traits.

C Tier: Starter Traits

The following traits will drop most often, so you can freely change them for something better, as their buffs are insignificant. Keep them only at the start of the game, and as soon as you can reroll again, don't hesitate to replace them.

TraitsDrop ChanceEffectsPros/Cons
Surge II26%Slightly increases unit's speed.Speed is good, but you can find better SPA options.
Strike II26%Slightly increases unit's damage.Average-at-best DMG is okay for mid-tier units.

D Tier: Chum Bucket Quality

Traits from the D-tier are almost useless, considering better options you can easily get. While you can leave those traits for the cheapest units, reroll ASAP for everyone Rare and above. These traits are Reach I, Reach II, Reach III (inferior range trait compared to others), and Surge I (slight damage increase is valuable only for lesser units.).
