In The Rogue Prince of Persia, players must upgrade Medallions to use them to their fullest potential. I'll teach you how to upgrade Medallions to help you survive your next Rogue Prince of Persia run.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Medallion upgrade guide
In the Rogue Prince of Persia, upgrading Medallions involves upgrading the Medallion slots using Medallions rather than upgrading the Medallions themselves. A player will have four Medallion slots in every run. Each slot will have three stars beneath it, representing the number of upgrades the Medallion placed in that slot will have. At the start of every run, both the Medallion slots and their stars will be colorless and empty.
Players will naturally find Medallions during their runs. When looking over a Medallion, there are two things related to upgrades you'll want to look over.
- The circles beneath the name, indicated by the white arrow, show which Medallion slot the Medallion will upgrade. For the Spartan, the first circle is empty, while the circle to its right has two green arrows. This means that placing the Spartan Medallion in one slot will upgrade the slot directly to its right.
- The bullet points, indicated by the yellow arrow, show the abilities of the Medallion. The symbol to the left of the abilities shows what level the Medallion needs to be upgraded to to use that ability.
- A Single Dot - The Medallion can always use this ability.
- 1 Star - The Medallion needs to be upgraded once.
- 2 Star - The Medallion needs to be upgraded twice.
- 3 Star - The Medallion needs to be upgraded three times.
After picking up a Medallion, you'll be directed to the Medallion slots screen. The Medallion will float above the currently selected slot. The slots it would upgrade in that position will be outlined in green and have two green arrows on their right side.
Once the Medallion is placed, a star will be added to the slot to symbolize how many times it has been upgraded. One star means it has been upgraded once, two stars mean twice, and three stars means three times.
Repeat this process by filling the rest of the slots with Medallions. When every slot is filled with a properly placed Medallion, they will all be upgraded to some extent. Make sure to focus on upgrading the slots with Medallions that require higher upgrades, like Vampiric Demise.
Medallion Upgrade limitations
There are a few limitations to keep in mind when leveling up Medallions. The first involves placing Medallions into certain slots, while the other involves getting rid of an old Medallion for a new one.
Medallion slot position
The most important limitation to remember is that each Medallion will only be useful in certain slots. If you place a Medallion in a slot that doesn't utilize its upgrades, you're setting yourself up for failure later. For example, let's look at the Bloody Spoils Medallion. Its best placement is in the third or fourth slot so its upgrades will be given to two other Medallions.
However, players placing it in the first slot will not utilize these two upgrades. They will still have the Medallion, but it won't do anything to improve the Medallions around it. The second slot is slightly better, but you're still missing out on a pivotal upgrade.
There are circumstances where this won't be a bad placement, such as having Medallions that cannot be upgraded. Though, generally, you'll want to ensure you're getting the most out of every Medallion you pick up.
Replacing Medallions
Any Medallion can be replaced with another you find during your run. However, replacing a Medallion removes the upgrades it had given to the Medallion slots around it. Depending on the upgrades provided by the new Medallion, a few things may happen:
- A Medallion may have an upgrade taken away, symbolized by a red outline around the Medallion's slot. There will also be two red arrows on the right side of the downgraded Medallion.
- If the new and old Medallions had overlapping upgrades, the affected Medallions may keep the same upgrade level. This is shown by an "=" symbol on the right side of the affected Medallion's slot.
- A new Medallion may get an upgrade. This is shown by a green outline and upward-facing arrows on the upgraded Medallion's slot.
Any combination of the three may occur. Medallions that are not affected will look as they always do.
When you replace these Medallions, the star representing the affected upgrade level will be outlined, indicating whether it has increased or decreased. Stars in red will be removed, while stars in green will be added. Stars that are affected but will not change will be outlined in yellow.
After replacing it, the star will change to reflect the change. This will help you keep track of all of your current Medallion upgrades.
