Is there multiplayer in Rune Factory 5?

What if I want to play with my friends?

As a Harvest Moon spin-off, much of the Rune Factory experience is a daily life simulator. However, it is also partially a fast-paced action RPG complete with crafting, weapons, and spells. Given how you’re seen fighting with other characters in some of the trailers, you may be wondering if Rune Factory 5 has a multiplayer feature.

Sadly, the answer is no. Rune Factory 5, much like its predecessor, is a single-player adventure game. You can invite in-game companions to fight with you, but they can’t be controlled by another player. You and your buddies can, however, trigger link attacks, whose effects differ depending on your current roster.

The only Nintendo Switch Online perk you’re going to get from this game is the usual Save Data Cloud backup.

Still, this single-player experience does not make Rune Factory 5 bad at all. In fact, combat is a small part of Rune Factory. Most of the time, you will find yourself farming, building relationships, and completing solo quests. Eventually, your character falls in love, marries, and starts a family. There's plot, and the game is story-driven. Ultimately, it's best experienced alone.
