Best starting Archetype for Atticus Daley in Sovereign Syndicate

Let's get started.

When you start your adventure in RPG Sovereign Syndicate, you’ll need to create the character of Atticus Daley. This begs the question: what is the best choice of starting archetype for him?

Which archetype should you choose for Atticus? (Sovereign Syndicate)

Sovereign Syndicate is a largely text-driven RPG in which you make a large number of skill checks to drive the story forward. These choices are in turn affected by one of four Attributes that are improved as you play by making decisions (whether you pass or fail) connected to them. The four starting Archetypes each strengthen one Attribute in particular.

Due to his size and manner, choosing Animal Instinct is the most obvious choice for Atticus, but I have had some really interesting results using all of the conversation options.

Each stat is connected to a starting Archetype but also a certain style of play. However, one Archetype is not better than the others. Rather than looking for the best starting Archetype, you should choose the one that best suits your roleplay style because it boosts the stats that you’ll likely want to choose in dialogue options.

ArchetypeMajor Arcana (Trait)Starting Attributes
Animal InstinctChariot (Intimidating)Animal Instinct +8, Spryness +5, Wit +2
SprynessThe Star (Charlatan)Spryness +8, Animal Instinct +5, Self Discipline +2
WitThe Hermit (Self Reliant)Wit +8, Self-Discipline +5, Animal Instinct +2
Self-DisciplineThe High Priestess (Illusionist)Self-Discipline +8, Wit +5, Spryness +2

Each Trait you get during the game will occasionally open unique dialogue options connected to it, so you may also want to choose one that sounds like it connects with the personality you want to play.

What do Attributes do in Sovereign Syndicate?

To help you choose your best possible starting archetype, these are the kinds of skill checks you can expect to face by choosing each Attribute:

  • Animal Instinct: These choices tend to involve brute force, tackling things head-on, and being short-tempered.
  • Self-Discipline: Often the opposite of using your animal instinct, Self-Discipline choices are more risk-averse and careful options.
  • Spryness: Using your spryness will see you picking pockets, sneaking around, and generally risk-taking to get a potential profit.
  • Wit: These decisions see you trying to rely on your stock of knowledge, using your intelligence and deduction skills for a problem.
