Chapter 2 of Sovereign Syndicate will have you playing as Clara Reed, a clever dollymop who is ready to leave the city for good. This walkthrough will take you through 19th-century London's streets in a quest to gather the coin and buy Clara a ticket to freedom.
Chapter 2 Sovereign Syndicate Guide
Like the other characters, Clara has four skills you can level up individually and each corresponds to a minor arcana deck. These are: Intuition (yellow swords deck), Intellect (blue wands deck), Tact (green cups deck), Grace (red coins deck).
All Clara's Archetypes in Sovereign Syndicate
After finishing Chapter 1, you will have to pick one of the four Archetypes for Clara. This choice is important since it will affect the stat distribution and your first Major Arcana, which unlocks unique dialogue options.
- The Emperor is a Tarot card based on Intuition, and grants the trait Stubborn. Choose this if you want Clara to be guided by her gut and stick to what she feels it's right.
- Strength is a card based on Grace, which gives the trait Determined. This path will make Clara take quick and assertive conclusions.
- Judgement is based on Intellect and gives the trait Polymath. This unlocks dialogues related to knowledge, arts, and history, which can be useful to communicate at a deeper level with NPCs such as Felipe Serrano or Timothy Agarwal, two fishermen at the docks.
- The Moon is a Tact-based card that gives the Chameleon trait. It gives Clara the ability to say the right thing at the right time and fit in with any social circle.
Lord Silas' Airship walkthrough
The first scene starts with Clara, recently awakened, in Lord Silas' Airship. While there are many items with which to interact, I've listed the relevant ones below.
Some checks are especially important since they can trigger a new quest or grant a Major Arcana card. I am not saying you should savescum to get them all, but I will mention them so at least you attempt all the skill checks.
- Take the perfume from the Cheffonier and spray it on Clara: it will grant her +5 on Yellow Bile, which levels up her Intuition.
- Take the Lady Braxton Gin from the Wine Rack (Silas will give it to you even if you fail the Intellect check). Any gin can be used to gain +5 hope, they work as healing potions.
- Picking up the Elaborate Fan will open up the quest Fan Collector.
- Talk to Silas. Ask "How's work coming along with the new prosthesis?" and try to pass the Tact check when he complains about the workers. If you succeed this check, you will unlock the Major Arcana The Moon, which gives you the Chameleon trait to better blend in with others.
- End the conversation and Go to Wharf.
St Katharine Docks walkthrough
Coming down from the airship, Clara finds herself in the docks. There's a lot of possible interactions, but I found it is best to do it in the following order:
- Speak to the Navy Officer, humor him and he will tell you a tale. Listen to the whole story and he will reward you with a Jonathan Silver Gin (+5 Hope).
- Talk to the Newsboy. Ask him: "Does it trouble you so much that you're a bit smaller than the average Cyclops?". This will start a new quest "Rob's remedy".
- Ask the boy about the broadsides and give him a penny to start the task "The Courtesan Killer".
- Because you've spoken to the Navy Officer first, now you get to ask Rob about the officer's current occupation.
- Talk to the dog at the end of the alley. You can feed it later by purchasing meat at Sorris Square. Once you've fed it, you get a chance to level up your Intellect.
- Speak to the Centaur Dockhound, Helena Bailey. You will have the chance to pass an Intellect check to get information on Molly, the leader of the Dockhounds (the most powerful criminal gang in East London). She seems to be running a fake charity to earn money; this information could prove useful in the future.
- A conversation with the fisher Timothy Agarwal offers the chance to level up Tact or boast your Polymath trait if you have it. He will also tell you something about the Navy Officer.
- You can use your Polymath trait to speak Spanish with Felipe Serrano and gain some Black Bile for your Intellect. Afterwards, he will tell you about his new love and start the task The Fisherman's Bride. Felipe will realize he talked too much and try to buy your silence for the price of a fish. You can later use that fish to feed the cat in Sorris Square.
- Pick up all the Gears and Cogs you can find. Later on, you can sell those to the Wharf Engineer (Dante Ziegler), located next to the ship.
- Speak to Greenstreet, the Canadian smuggler, to advance the main task. Throughout the conversation, you will have a few chances to level up Clara's skills. Regardless of the path you take, the ending will be the same; however, I do recommend threatening him to gain the Major Arcana Justice, which unlocks the trait Vengeful.
After speaking with the smuggler the main task The Last of London will update. Clara will have to speak to Madam Zora. Furthermore, a new task will come up prompting Clara to speak to Dolores Chen, the owner of a laundry shop in the Red Lantern Lane.
Fast traveling is unlocked now; just click on the Map icon on the bottom right corner and you will be able to move to all the districts available.
Sorris Square walkthrough
- The cookfire can heal you up 5 Hope.
- Avoid the broken window since it will make you lose 5 Hope.
- You can speak with the stewbum Poe Pickett and give him 6 pennies to gain 5 hope.
- The Butcher sells meat to feed the dog at the docks.
- Feed the Black Cat with the fish you received from Felipe Serrano. If you didn't get the free Pollack you can still buy more from the fisherman. After feeding it, you can pet it and the cat will run off. You can find it later in Clara's room, in the Royal Suite of the Bell Jar.
- If you take a look at the poster that threatens the werewolves, "look at the bright side" to gain Hope.
- Don't read the obituary if you don't want to lose Hope.
- Speak to the Bladed Dockhound, a woman called Olivia Lin, and tell her you want to get out of London. A Grace skill check will make her stand watch while you steal 10 cigarettes and a bottle of gin from the wagon nearby.
- Enter the Apothecary, where you can buy the remedy for Rob the Cyclops Newsboy. Go back to him with the medicine to finish the task.
- There are a few coins in a Storm Drain on the square.
- You can heal Hope by looking at the fallen leaves, the chair, or the parasol near the restaurant, and always choosing the optimistic dialogue line. Avoid the smelly crate.
- Enter the Bell Jar and speak to Souri, the receptionist. You can get a fan here for your Fan Collector task, and she will also give you two telegrams. One is an invitation to a party, the other one is a message from a beast hunter named Theodore who informs you that you have a bounty.
- You can go up to the Royal Suite to heal Hope in the bathtub and gain a few points for your humors. Just don't draw a card from the Tarot Deck because this will make you lose Hope.
Red Lantern Lane walkthrough
This small alley has two main interest points: the Laundry and the Bathhouse. There isn't much to do in the Bathhouse besides grabbing a few coins and taking a bath to gain 10 Hope. However, it is important to visit the Laundry and speak to Dolores Chen.
- If you use your Intuition and make her open up, she will tell you she's been having trouble and start the task "By a Thread." Don't worry if you fail the check, you can still get the quest by choosing the option which uses your Intellect.
- The task will tell you to "find the ladsman in Sorris Square", however don't bother looking for him yet because he isn't there in Chapter 2.
Tenter Street walkthrough
This is a small alley with only one shop available. Inside Curio Shoppe you can purchase from Anselina Kemény a fan for your collection and a Magic Lockpick, which will come in handy later.
Cable Street walkthrough
There isn't much to do here for now, beyond gathering a few gears and cogs. To move the main quest forward, you will have to visit Beggar's Lane.
Beggar's Lane walkthrough
You will recognize this place as the one where the first Chapter takes place, where Atticus Daley wakes up the night before. However, any changes he might have made to the environment, like turning off the electricity from the fence, have been restored.
- Here, you should speak with the Troubled Woman, who turns out to be Ivana Orsini, a reporter for the London Journal. She will give you the task The Journalist's Scoop, and ask you to mark with chalk the window of Dr Wainwright.
- Inside the Palladium, there isn't much to do in the first room. Go through the door to speak to Madam Zora and after a short cutscene you will be left free to roam the premises.
- Louise Artz is playing the piano. Talk to her and she will give you some info on the Courtesan Killer quest.
- Upstairs there is a room with the door open and a client waiting blindfolded by the bed. This is Dr Wainwright, so you can go ahead and mark the window without talking to him. However, if you have the Chameleon trait from The Moon tarot card, you should engage in conversation. This will trigger a unique permutation of dialogue and a Tact skill check, which will inform Clara of the cure for Lycanthropy.
- When you open the window and mark it you will gain the Major Arcana card Temperance, which unlocks the trait Secretive.
- There's an Old Lace Perfume in a wardrobe in the empty room. Use it to gain +5 Black Bile and level up your Intellect.
- In the same room, inside the bathroom, there is a bottle of Laudanum. This will grant you +3 Blood to increase your Grace.
- Madam Zora will ask you to fetch medicine for Beatrix and some candies for herself.
- On the way out, you can speak with Beatrix to gain a few points for your humors and when you leave the Palladium Chapter 2 will be over.
