Is Venom playable in Spider Man 2?

Spider-Man has always been one of my favorite heroes, not just because I love spiders and bugs, but also because of his personality and especially the villains he faces. One of my all-time favorite Spider-Man villains is Venom, who has been confirmed to be in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 and will face off against Peter and Miles. However, his role in the game has left me wondering if I can play as Venom in Spider-Man 2.

Can you play as Venom in Spider Man 2?

Unfortunately, we do not know at the time of writing whether Venom will be playable in Spider-Man 2. Peter has been shown to use Symbiote powers, but this differs from embodying and allowing players to play as Venom. Venom largely forms due to Peter rejecting the Symbiote, then copying his powers for the next host.

My hope for Spider-Man 2 is we get to play Venom during a story mission, likely after Peter rejects the Symbiote. A small sequence as Venom will allow the players to fully experience everything the Symbiote could do, as well as give players a taste of Venom without having him be playable throughout the entire game. It would also serve as a great introduction to the villain in the story. But this is speculation and my personal hopes.

Who is Venom in Spider Man 2?

There is no confirmation on who Venom is in Spider-Man 2. However, the primary theory is Harry Osborne will be Venom in Insomniac's sequel. Supporting evidence has been littered throughout trailers and even the end of Spider-Man on PS4. The Symbiote is seen in the tanks of Oscorp, but the most compelling evidence is Harry's quote of, "We're gonna to heal the world" followed by Venom saying, "We're going to heal the world."

While the evidence strongly supports Harry and Venom being the same, Insomniac may be misdirecting us because it seems so obvious. While this may be misdirection, it seems almost guaranteed Harry Osborne will be Venom in Spider-Man. Fortunately, we don't have long to wait until Spider-Man 2 releases on PS5.
