Starfield's May update has brought with it a ship full of new features and improvements for players across all platforms. One highly-anticipated feature that brings relief to the galaxy's biggest adventurers is the ability to increase Vendor Credits. It does come with a small string attached, however, so it's also important to know if the adjustment is worth it.
As part of the May update, Starfield players can now adjust the volume of Credits that all vendors have on hand when attempting to sell items to them.
How to adjust Vendor Credits in Starfield & is it worth it?
To do so, go to the in-game System Menu, go to 'Settings', and then to 'Gameplay Options'. There will be an option called 'Vendor Credits' (as seen below), along with a toggle wheel to adjust the amount of Credits that Vendors have in the game.
There is a small catch to this new feature, though. If you set the Vendor Credits volume to 'Increased' or 'Greatly Increased', there will be a percentage decrease in overall XP earned in-game (-2% or -4% XP respectively). Vice versa, if you decrease Vendor Credits, this will provide a small XP boost. It's not unique only to this feature, however, as it applies to all of the newly added "survivability" features listed alongside it (e.g. - Carry Capacity, Cargo Access, Medical Item Healing, etc).
In terms of how high the increase in Vendor Credits is, after toggling it to 'Greatly Increased', I found that a nearby vendor's wallet had gone up from 5,000 to 25,000, meaning it had quintupled. That alone makes the adjustment incredibly handy for offloading huge amounts of loot from your personal and ship inventories. Above all, it rules out having to waste time hopping from vendor to vendor across an entire city.
Also, it's worth noting that the adjustment only takes effect after a vendor's weekly inventory has reset. If it's a vendor you haven't visited in a while, the effect should be immediate. Otherwise, if you've recently conducted business with them, you may need to wait a bit to see the change.
While the XP deduction can feel like a setback, in hindsight 2-4% is not a huge loss. To help offset it you can adjust one or more of the other survivability features to where it'll be a 0% loss if you wish. Overall, it adds another layer of customization to your gameplay experience.
