How to use Digipicks to open cases in Starfield

Unlock these locked spaces with a flick of the wrist.

In Starfield, you'll come across various locked spaces, caches, and containers that can be opened by using a Digipick. This is a fairly common lockpicking item you'll find while exploring different regions. Naturally, you need to know how to use a Digipick to successfully unlock safes, cases, doors, and boxes. Here's how to use a Digipick to open locked spaces in Starfield.

How to unlock safes, cases, and doors using Digipicks in Starfield

While exploring different planets and regions, you'll come across different locked cases, containers, ammo/weapon cases, locked doors, and safes. To unlock these, you'll need to use a Digipick. Each lock you come across will have a security level: Novice, Advanced, Expert, and Master. I was able to unlock Novice locks from the start, but the other three levels will require progress in the Tech and Security tab under the skill tree.

To unlock a case, interact with the lock and a panel will open up where you'll see multiple cogwheels/rings. These rings will have specific openings around the circumference, and your job is to align the vertical lines along these gaps. Matching the lines along these open slots will help you open the lock. The ammo case I opened had four different wheels (as shown in the image above), and I rotated the vertical lines until they matched up with the open slots.

After aligning all the cogwheels with the open gaps in the correct position, use the Digipick. The best way to do this is to keep rotating the cogwheel to find the proper slot (check the image above to see how it looks in-game).

Once all the open spaces are aligned with the vertical lines, press E to use the Digipick and open the container. The ammo box I opened had the following ammunition: 1.5KV LZR Cartridge, 6.5mm CT, and 7.77mm Caseless.

How to get Digipicks in Starfield

Digipicks can be found as ground loot, on tables, lockers, and on corpses. I found around three Digipicks while exploring the Kreet Research Lab. I'd also recommend searching inside your ship, as I found a Digipick on the Frontier. This item can also be purchased from different vendors. After landing on New Atlantis, you can visit the vendors/merchants to purchase Digipicks.
