Starfield Alternating Currents Guide

Alternating Currents quest walkthorugh!

Alternating Currents is a miscellaneous quest that unlocks after you've completed the Tapping The Grid mission for Louisa Reyez. Through the mission, you'll travel to different locations to activate Junction Boxes and figure out the source of the power drain.

After you meet Reyez in The Well, she'll ask for your help which you have to agree to. You'll accompany her to the Trade Authority office to have a chat with the assistant Zoe Kaminski. Thereafter, you'll be tasked to power down the first Junction Box located somewhere upstairs.

Where to Find the Junction Box in Alternating Currents

Open your scanner (press F on keyboard) to get the direction to the junction box. Jump across the broken platform to reach the panel shown in the image above. Open the panel door and activate the Junction Box 36B. Now, the location of two other Junction Boxes will appear on your screen.

While Reyez will ask you to go to the one downstairs, Zoe will try to persuade you to activate the one right next to you (see first image). I decided to go to Junction Box 45A, the one mentioned by Reyez as I trusted her decision. Unlock the door shown in the second picture to access the panel and activate the junction box.

You'll then be tasked to go outside to the Residential District and activate the Junction Box 101F. The panel is right outside the CJ's store, which you can see in the image above. Now, enter the residential tower in front of you and take the elevator to the Athena Tower Apartment. At the destination, you'll find a locked door that you need to pick using a Digipick.

How to Unlock the Door in the Athena Tower Apartment

Picking the door lock is quite simple, but you can refer to the images above to see how I unlocked it. There are four keys that you need to insert into the correct slots to unlock the door. Enter the apartment and use the Unauthorized Computer. Select the Download Files tab to collect the data.

Should you Deliver Evidence to Louisa Reyez or Zoe Kaminski?

When you go back to The Well, you'll have to decide who you want to give the evidence to: Reyez or Zoe. I know the result for both choices, and I can say that it doesn't make a difference whom you choose, at least for now. Giving the data to either character will reward you with 2000 credits and some XP. What I cannot confirm is whether it'll impact your future missions. When I gave the evidence to Reyez, I could still talk to Zoe afterward, and she told me how I can work for the Trade Authority.
