What is The Alters? Release window, survival mechanics, & gameplay trailer!

The Alters challenges us not only to manage the life and survival of one space explorer, but also the copies of himself that aid in the management of his mobile base. So, what else do you need to know about the upcoming game?

When does The Alters come out?

The Alters will be released sometime in 2024, though a specific date has yet to be announced. Considering the date announcement came about via Xbox Partner Preview in March 2024, we theorize that it may be released late within the year. Players can find The Alters on Xbox consoles and PC via Steam.

What is The Alters about?

The Alters is an action-adventure, survival, and base-building game where you play as a man who can clone himself to help with his goals. Jan Dolski, the protagonist, now lives on a remote planet (after crashing his ship) that is under constant threat of a sun quickly rising in close proximity to his newly found haven. Help him keep his base running (and moving) with the help of cloned versions of Jan who will need as much tending to as the base itself.

How does Survival work in The Alters?

One of the most underrated aspect of gameplay in The Alters is the survival. You're on a constantly moving base that is escaping the dangerous solar rays that threaten the protagonist. You must complete a myriad of tasks and raise skills to ensure your survival, including:

• Mining resources
• Cooking/eating
• Gardening
• Mechanics
• Medicine
• Science

You'll be able to complete these tasks with an individual alter for each job needed. Alters are created via a system of looking into Jan's past, empowered by a special mineral only found on this new planet. You must manage the unique desires, motivations, and ambitions of each occurring alter.
