The First Descendant continues to evolve, and Hotfix 1.0.7 promises to address some of the most pressing issues players are facing in-game. Scheduled for release on August 13, 2024, this update will bring several quality-of-life improvements, making gameplay smoother and more enjoyable for players.
One of the most frustrating experiences in any multiplayer game is when a player in your team decides to go away from their keyboard (AFK). Nexon has heard the feedback about AFK players loud and clear, and will be making a significant in how Special Operations missions work.
Punishment for AFKers imminent
With Hotfix 1.0.7, players who go AFK during these missions will automatically be moved to the Abort selection during Interim Review. This means they won’t take up valuable space in your team, allowing active players to carry on without the dead weight. It’s a small but impactful change that should make team missions far more efficient and enjoyable. It also means they can't enjoy EXP farming without actually doing anything to contribute.
Farming buffs ahoy!
But that’s not all! Nexon is also making it easier for active players to farm EXP and continue playing with their squad. After completing Intercept Battles, Special Operations, and Infiltration Operations, players will have extra time to choose whether they want to restart the mission; two new buttons — "Restart with Squad" and "Restart Alone" — will be added to the mission’s end screen.
Whether you want to keep cycling through the same mission with your friends or prefer to play the challenge by yourself, these new options should provide a smoother gaming experience.
But wait, there's more
Hotfix 1.0.7 isn’t just about AFK players and farming, though. The patch will also introduce a series of tweaks and improvements to enhance gameplay. For instance, the options for Infiltration Operation on Hard Mode are being adjusted, removing the frustrating "Grappling Hook Disabled" and "Jump Disabled" challenges.
The Frost Walker mechanism’s difficulty will be dialed down, too, making public matchmaking more accessible. Plus, players will be able to benefit from a lovely bit of character invincibility when standing in hazardous areas after completing an intercept battle.
Anyone playing The First Descendant will also see better inventory management, with new icons in the inventory screen that will allow you to quickly identify key information about your equipment. This should make sorting through your loot much faster.
As always, I'm happy to see Nexon have such an active approach towards developing their game further. The hotfixes so far have shown how much the devs are listening to their players, and how willing they are to make changes that the fans obviously want for better gameplay.
Now if they could just fix the "preparing shaders" issue...
