To write songs in The Sims 4you need to gain skill with any kind of musical instrument. You can do this by playing that instrument as often as your Sim can. If they have any musical traits or perks, your Sim can accomplish this faster than usual.

If you already have the option to select the action to write a song, you'll see it when you click on the instrument. From there, your Sim will begin meticulously writing a song. Be warned that the Sim will take a long time to write the song, usually about 12 hours.

To be able to write a song in the first place, you need to improve your musical skill to level eight. This does not mean a general music skill, but rather a skill on a specific instrument. This means you cannot have a level eight skill in guitar but write a song on the piano. Your skill level needs to correspond to the instrument you want to write a song with.

How to license or sell a song in Sims 4

You can sell your song after you write it, but you'll need to level up a bit more again. You need to reach skill level 9 on the instrument you wrote the song on. Once you have reached level 9, go to your mailbox at your Sim's home lot and choose the option that says License Song. Selling songs will earn you royalties for your music every day. Sims are able to license one song per week on each instrument.
