This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Trying to survive on a deserted island must be incredibly hard and extremely taxing on your mind and body. However, this is a video game, so instead of worrying about deep issues instead, equip your Wooden Club, and explore the island looking for secrets and treasure! On the island in The Survivalist, you'll find treasure chests, Totems, and a Mysterious stranger! The supplies found may just keep you afloat for the weeks to come!

How to find treasure

On your exploration of the island, you'll come across chests left by old island inhabitants; it may be best not to dwell on what happened to them... You can open them and see what they hold; if they carry anything useful, click on it, and it'll go inside your inventory. Just keep an eye on how much more you can carry, as going deeper into the island isn't worth it if you can't pick up more loot!

You'll also come across boxes that you can break to get a random assortment of items, such as Gold, Materials, and on the odd occasion, even food! Boxes are quite common, but it's best to take these home to your patch of the island because you have no idea how many items you'll receive when breaking, and leaving items behind isn't something you want to do!

What do Totems do?

On the island, there are Totem Statues. However, these are not just for aesthetic purposes; they are special totems that can reward you. Each totem will require a certain item from you, and if you bring that item to it, they'll shower you with rewards in the form of Treasure Chests.

Upon interacting with the Totem Statue, they will give you a hint on the item they require, thought it might be quite vague. For example, it'll be something like:

Only something shiny will fill the void inside of me!

But they'll always show you the picture of the item you need as well, to give you that bit of an extra helping hand!

The Mysterious Stranger

When exploring, you might come across a very suspicious individual inside of a hot-air balloon. However, the Mysterious stranger is a nice guy! They own a roaming shop that spawns in different areas on the map on different days, so if you find them early one day, they'll stay there until you sleep, then they'll disappear from that area. Make sure you've done all business with them before the day is done!

The first time you'll meet the stranger, he'll give you a special task to do. The Mysterious Stranger wants 3 Rope, and in return, you'll receive a Spy Glass, which is in the rewards box at the side of his balloon, not a bad trade at all! If you don't have Rope on you, quickly find some Long Grass to craft it into some.

The Spyglass can be used whenever you’re near the shoreline. It’ll reveal parts of the world map, including any islands that are further away. This is for much later in the game, when sea travel becomes a thing.

Once you've completed the task, the stranger will show you his purchasable wares - this could be anything from Materials, Tools, and occasionally Food. Sometimes even Treasure Maps can be bought! Because you can view their wares, you can also sell your own stuff in exchange for Gold!

The supplies that be can be purchased on your first meeting with the stranger are:

  • Mysterious Chest – 30
  • 20x Palm Leaf – 23
  • Flimsy Axe – 50
  • Mango Curry – 200
  • Lightweight Axe – 135
  • Metal Club – 120
  • Gold Spear – 75
  • Sturdy Multitool – 55
  • Gold Ingot – 45
  • Glowing Rock – 70
