Witcher 3 Update 4.02 Patch Notes

Now you can run away from Shani without breaking the game.

If you've been dealing with game ruining bugs or crashing while playing Witcher 3, it's time to step back into Geralt's shoes and reignite the Wild Hunt. On March 13, 2023, CD Projekt dropped a patch update for the game centered around stability and performance fixes. Here's everything included in the patch.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Patch Notes for Update 4.02

PC Patches

  • Improved CPU core utilization in the DX 12 version.
  • Fixed the horizon-based ambient occlusion.
    • If you had Ambient Occlusion turned off, you'll need to turn it off once again. You can do so by going to options -> video -> graphics.
  • Fixed section issue where "My Rewards" was not localized in REDLauncher.
  • Made the landscape in Toussaint solid and not flickery. This bug was especially prevalent when NVIDIA HairWorks was disabled.
  • Fixed a particle optimization issue that resulted in temporary stuttering.

Console Patches

  • Improved Performance Mode for next-gen consoles.
  • Made characters on PlayStation 5 more visible by removing the slight blurriness that could occur during dialogues and cutscenes.
  • Fixed a memory usage issue in Ray Tracing Mode that was resulting in crashes on Xbox Series X.
  • Whatsoever a Man Soweth... On next-gen consoles, if Geralt runs away from Shani after beginning the conversation the game will no longer crash.
  • Fixed an issue where quicksaves couldn't be loaded when using cross progression on Xbox One.
  • Two missing "Top notch swords!" from previous-gen consoles have been added.
  • Fixed an overwriting manual save issue where some oldest saves were being deleted on PlayStation 5.
  • Addressed performance issues in Beauclair and Novigrad that occurred after loading a gamesave.

Visual Patches for PC and Next-gen Consoles

  • Added refraction to SSR and ray-traced reflections for improved immersion with the water appearance.
  • Fixed a visual issue with brick textures where black artifacts covered stone arches.
  • Motion Blur slider added. You can find it in options -> video -> graphics.

Quests & Gameplay Patches for all Platforms

  • Battle Preparations Fixed the lack of a dialogue option that would progress the quest during the objective "Let Avallac'h know everything's ready."
  • Reason of State Fixed the issue of the locking warehouse door. Before this patch, if a player knocked on the door, entered, and then immediately left the building the warehouse door would become permanently locked.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Cat School Gear Upgrade Diagrams Part 1 Fixed the bug where the quest would remain active after all diagrams were looted.
  • Fixed an issue where trying to start a New Game+ on any incompatible save blocked the play from starting expansions in standalone mode until the game was restarted.

Localization Patches for all Platforms

  • Fixed an issue with the Korean localization of Ciri's and Geralt's Gwent card descriptions.
  • Fixed punctuation issues in Arabic localization.
  • Updated Traditional Chinese font.
