Is there permadeath in Tunic?

Stay alive little fox.

You will explore a mysterious world and battle dangerous monsters as you play Tunic. Unfortunately, sometimes these monsters may get the better of you, and you will find yourself dying. This may leave you wondering if you respawn or if there is permadeath in Tunic.

The answer is no—there is no permadeath in Tunic. When you die, you respawn at the last statue that you visited. However, when you die, you drop a portion of your coins where you fell. You must return to that spot and retrieve your items. If you die again before you do so, those coins are gone forever.

So while there is no permadeath, you can permanently lose your hard-earned coins. Combat in Tunic can be challenging, so take care when approaching enemies, especially those that you have not encountered before. Take the time to learn their patterns and when to strike.

Tunic takes inspiration in this death and respawn system from the Dark Souls series. While dying isn't permanent in Tunic, you can still lose valuables, so be careful how you explore the world.
