Wordle - Common Questions

If you are new to Wordle, you aren't alone. Many players are just now discovering this great word puzzle game. Check out these questions to fast-track your knowledge of Wordle.

How do you play Wordle?

Wordle is played by navigating to the game's website. From there, you'll be given a blank grid. Enter your first guess by typing in any five-letter word. If you got any letters correct, you'll get either green or yellow squares. Green means the right letter in the right place. Yellow means the right letter in the wrong place. Continue to answer words in each row (you get six rows/chances) using your hints from previous guesses. The goal is to discover the word in as few guesses as possible.

What are the rules of Wordle?

There are technically no rules in Wordle, but cheating by looking up the word of the day is discouraged. Any other form of dishonesty like using a dictionary will be considered cheating by other players. It is also highly frowned upon to share the daily word online. Do not screenshot your board to show off your score. Instead, use the Share button you get at the end. This creates that wordless tile grid that others are sharing online.

Is Wordle a multiplayer game?

Wordle is not technically multiplayer through gameplay, as you play alone. Wordle has, however, created a large community of players who share their scores online by using the Share button that pops up after completing the puzzle.

What is Hard Mode in Wordle?

Hard mode for players in Wordle is a game mode that means that when Hard Mode is activated, the player will have to use the green and yellow hints in the rest of their guesses. You can turn on hard mode by hitting the gear icon in the top right.

How often can you play Wordle?

Wordle can only be completed and played by a player once per day since the scores are based on a player's daily score after one attempt at the puzzle.

Where can I play Wordle?

Currently, Wordle can only be played on the official website. Some people have been faking app versions of the game, but the game's creator has shown to only have one website.
