Yaoling Mythical Journey – Best Yaolings Tier List

Pick the right party.

RPG Yaoling Mythical Journey is a creature collection adventure game with a Pokemon vibe, where you put together a team of Yaolings to auto-battle for you. There are hundreds of Yaolings to choose from so if you want to avoid a lot of experimentation, check out my Yaoling tier list below.

There are hundreds of Yaolings you can capture and add to your party in Yaoling Mythical Journey. You’ll find all those you can capture and use below but do note that this is a work in progress. This list currently includes the Yaolings you’ll find up to around level 20 and will be extended as we progress further into the game.

Where a Yaoling can evolve into a better version, the original version is in brackets after the evolved Yaoling. Also, note that these ratings are based on the basics (ability, speed, power, etc). Talents can hugely change a Yaoling’s performance, meaning a rare find may elevate the individual above their usual tier, while resistances will make certain Yaolings fit for a particular area or battle.

Best yaolings to level up in Yaoling Mythical Journey

These Yaoling rankings are based on my experience, so you may find certain creatures I’ve ranked in low tiers to be ones you consider favorites. I can only base this tier list on my play style and how these Yaolings have done for me, so note that your mileage may vary. This list does not include demons as they’re not collectible.

S-Tier Yaolings

This elite group of Yaolings has proved invaluable in my party and are likely to be in the majority of battles I enter into.

Ratzor (Moustrike)

It can be challenging to keep assassin Ratzor alive, as it tends to take a lot of heat, but it usually goes out with a bang! Ratzor jumps behind a back-row enemy and wails on them, often taking them out before they can make much of an impact.

Shelgun (Gunster)

Shelgun is a great mid-range DPS, until its Firing Squad ability kicks in and takes it to the next level. Two allies appear next to it, firing eight shots while also acting as fresh targets to confuse the enemy.

Roslet

While Roslet’s ability may look niche, I always see it have a big effect on battles. Whirling Blossom gives a big Crit Chance and Crit Damage buff to three allies which can turn the tide of a battle.

A-Tier Yaolings

These will be great Yaolings in any party, but can equally be replaced when the situation calls for a change or extra firepower in their particular department.

Gigantiff (Masstiff)

Look no further if you want a great frontline melee DPS. Its Thunderous Roar ability randomly hits five targets for solid damage, while raising its normal damage for the duration of the special.

Poshell

Poshell is the one healer I want in my party. It puts out solid close-range ranged damage and then launches Arcane Molly; an area of effect ability that heals allies in its area while damaging opponents. This takes all the randomness away, as it doesn’t matter who is affected.

Crabrock

If you’re looking for a second tank, or aren’t keen on Bax, Crabrock is a great option. Its FrostShell ability gives it a strong shield, which explodes after 10 seconds dealing great damage.

B-Tier Yaolings

Each Yaoling in the B-tier will do a job for you and won’t disgrace themselves. However, there are better Yaolings that do the same job higher on the list, or they serve a niche purpose which means you won’t need them often.

Tifur

You’ll get Tifur when you defeat the Lord of Flame. If you put the effort in to evolve it twice, you’ll have your own Khanger which has a great ability; grabbing an enemy and smashing it into another for big damage.

Didi

When you get a bigger party later in the game, Didi is a fun addition to mess around with. Its special (Grief) sees it taunt the furthest opponent from it and then run away. That target will go after it, with its range reduced by 5, and is unable to use its ability in the process.

C-Tier Yaolings

Situational Yaolings (usually with a specific damage type) that aren’t strong enough overall to keep up the effort needed to get them to your level.

Kitzember (Cinderkit)

The epitome of bog standard Yaolings, Kiyzember does OK damage, has poor range, and has a special that deals a reasonably good amount of fire damage. It just isn’t interesting or special enough to keep in most parties.

Herbunny (Bunbow)

I enjoyed having Herbunny as an OK long-range DPS, right up until it was outperformed by Duskat, who in turn was gazumped by Shelgun. Great early on, but soon replaceable with more interesting contenders.

D-Tier Yaolings

I’d leave these Yaolings at home. They’re either so niche they’re not worth the effort, or they can easily replaced with a stronger model in a higher tier.

Lumina (Lume)

There are only so many times you can watch Lumina casting its healing ability on allies who are not taking damage, while others die before you realize random healers are not a good idea in Yaoling!

Lavenfly (Laventot)

On paper, Lavenfly looks OK, with its Lunar Ballet ability giving Mana to a random ally as well as to itself, but it is too often inconsequential and it fails to perform outside of the ability.
