The power of flight definitely comes in handy in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Not only in Hyrule huge on the ground, but the skies and even The Depths have plenty of large spaces to explore. Flying machines make exploring much easier, so it's a good idea to have a couple good flying machines saved on Autobuild.
Which flying machines are the best to build in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)?
Triple Fan Plane
Shortly after getting Autobuild in Tears of the Kingdom, players get the schema stone for a Fan Plane. This build travels seriously slow, though. Adding a third fan puts a hop in the step of this basic Fan Plane, making it a great option to fly to far away areas. Attaching a cart to the bottom also allows the plane to take off on any surface. The devices players will need for this plane is as follows:
- Wing
- 3 Fans
- Steering Wheel
- Cart
Airbike
This is a must build simply for the ease of use. All players need are two fans and a steering stick to make an airbike. This smaller build can fly just as high as a traditional plane whit much less clutter. I personally save this to autobuild for situations when I need to leave quickly (like when Gloom Hands pop out of nowhere). Here are the parts for the Airbike:
- Two Fans
- Steering Stick

The Depths Explorer
Finding new lightroots in The Depths can be a pain. Creating a plane that can travel in The Depths with a light makes exploring The Depths a lot more smoother. Link can just fly over the enemies waiting in the depths. There are quite a bit of different parts to this build, so only use it when necessary:
- Wing
- Three Fans
- Two Batteries
- Steering Stick
- Light
- Cart
Raft Plane
While wings are nice for flying, they break pretty quickly. Using a wooden board instead of a wing as the base for a plane actually makes the build last longer. This is a great way to save on Zonanite for rebuilding the same wing again and again. Players can also find wooden boards at any stable in the game. Here are the parts for a raft plane:
- Wooden Board
- Two Fans
- Steering Stick
Hot Air Balloon
Anyone who wants to explore The Depths should have a Hot Air Balloon save to their Autobuild. This is because there are tons of caverns down there that are too tall for Link to climb. Players can get a Schema Stone for a Hot Air Balloon, but this doesn't actually come with a way to fire it up. That's why it's better to build one manually with a Flame Emitter and save that to Autobuild. Here are the full parts to this build:
- Balloon
- Cage
- Flame Emitter
