Is Epona in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

Behind every strong knight is a strong horse.

It already looks like plenty of former characters are showing up in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Ganondorf is coming back, Demise might make an appearance, etc. A knight needs his trusty steed, though, and many fans are wondering whether Epona will be showing up to reunite with Link once more.

Can Epona show up in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

At the moment of writing, there is no information that confirms Epona being in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. There is a strong possibility that the iconic horse can be in the game, however.

In Breath of the Wild, players needed a Link Amiibo to get Epona in the game. As for Tears of the Kingdom, there is a specific Link (Rider) amiibo that has connectivity in the game. This amiibo is confirmed to give the player a custom sailcloth, but it's unstated what other goodies it will give players. This might give Link access to Epona in the upcoming game.

Even if this isn't the case, there still hasn't been any confirmation on what the Amiibos for Super Smash Bros Ultimate would do in Tears of the Kingdom. It's possible that either the Link Amiibo or Young Link Amiibo for that game could reward players with putting Epona in the game.

In the final trailer for the game, Link can be seen riding through Fort Hateno atop a brown steed. There is a possibility that this could be the new design for Epona. There are plenty of similar looking horses around Hyrule, though, so this is far from a sure thing.
