Abloom is a powerful mechanic in Zenless Zone Zero tied directly to the character Vivian, and understanding how it works is key to optimizing her damage output. If you're wondering what Abloom does or how to trigger it effectively, this guide breaks it down in simplilist of terms.
What does Abloom do in Zenless Zone Zero?
Abloom is a unique damage-over-time (DoT) trigger effect that activates when Vivian's special flower blooms on the field, dealing damage based on the active Anomaly on the target. Proper usage of this mechanic can yield some serious damage, but you'll understand how it works if you want it to be effective for you.
How to trigger Abloom

When an enemy is under the influence of any Anomaly, Vivian can cause her flower to bloom using her abilities. While Vivian has at least one Guard Feather, anytime an EX Special is used by a teammate, Abloom will occur. Vivian can also trigger Abloom herself using her own EX Special Skill.
Guard Feathers are obtained when Vivian casts her final Basic Attack, which appears as an aerial divebomb from the sky. However, she must have accumulated Flight Feathers for this one-to-one conversation to occur.
Flight Feathers are obtained when Vivian uses any moves to become airborne.

This bloom effect is called Featherbloom, and it deals a burst of damage referred to as Abloom Damage. The type of Anomaly affecting the enemy determines how much damage is dealt by Featherbloom.
- Ether Anomaly - 6.15%
- Electric Anomaly - 3.2%
- Fire Anomaly - 8%
- Physical Anomaly - 0.75%
- Ice Anomaly - 1.08%
This essentially means the stronger the Anomaly, the more damage Abloom will do. Vivian should always be paired with a highly invested Anomaly partner so her Ablooms deal massive damage. Weak Anomalies will result in significantly less Abloom damage.
Abloom Special Properties

Vivian’s Dive Attack (Final Basic Attack) and the Abloom trigger both apply a powerful DoT effect known as Vivian’s Prophecy. This effect is particularly deadly as it comes with an assortment of mechanics you should be aware of:
- Vivian’s Prophecy deals 55% of Vivian’s ATK as damage every 0.55 seconds.
- The DoT lasts as long as the enemy is under an Anomaly.
- Unlike other effects, you don’t need to keep attacking to keep the damage going—think of it like Burnice’s Afterburn, but sustained passively.
Introduced in Patch 1.7, Abloom is tied specifically to Vivian for now, but it is likely the mechanic will continue to evolve as new characters are released with the mechanic.
