Gore is completely client-sided. A consequence of any multiplayer game is that sending information between the server and client takes time; this is called latency. Because of this latency, the client and server may disagree on whether someone hit a headshot. This results in the gore being applied by the client, but the damage never happens. This is largely unfixable unless the devs have the server first check where the shot landed, then notify the clients.
You'll need a swab and the shot (canister/round). These should be close to the cannon, and you can click on them to equip.
First, you need to load the shot, equip the shot, and go up to the muzzle of the cannon and press E. Your character will insert the shot.
Next, you'll have to tamp down the shot with the swab. Go up to the muzzle and press E; your character will tamp down the round. Now you can fire.
Go to the back of the cannon, press E to use it. When on the cannon, you can press A/D to rotate it side to side, and W/S for up and down. F to fire. To ready the cannon for the next shot, you must clean it. Equip the swab and go up to the muzzle and press E. Your character will clean the cannon. You're now ready to repeat the procedure.
