How to counter in Naraka: Bladepoint

Lock blades and look into your enemy's eyes.

Naraka: Bladepoint is a melee-focused battle royale that allows me to get my hands dirty and my blade bloody. Combat is the main focus, and while ranged weapons exist, I find that most battles revolve around the sword. This means mastering melee combat is crucial, especially when it comes to countering and blocking.

How to parry in Naraka: Bladepoint

There are two types of countering in Naraka: Bladepoint. Combat consists of normal attacks, which are a three-string combo. The other form of attacking is with a charged focus attack. Both require different counter techniques.

Standard attacks can be countered by delivering a standard attack at the same time. This will cause your and your opponent's attack to clang and knock both players back. This will likely be the most common form of countering you do, as it can happen naturally while fighting another player.

Countering a focus attack requires a specific button input. This is R1 on PlayStation, RB on Xbox, and the left and right mouse buttons on PC. Parrying a focus attack is a powerful defensive technique. Your opponent turns blue and then unleashes their focus attack, and this is when you need to press the parry button.

When you parry a focus attack, your opponent gains a red aura and is knocked to the ground, dropping their weapon in the process. This leaves them open for a powerful counterattack. Alternatively, you can use this as a chance to steal their weapon or run away. Parrying a focus attack requires precise timing; otherwise, you will be left open to attack.
