To change the difficulty settings in Age of Empires IV, you have to select a preferred difficulty option from the game settings.
Available Difficulty Settings
Before selecting the preferred settings of your choice, you have to know all the difficulty settings available in the game.
- Story Mode - For those looking to experience the historical context of Age of Empires without much of a challenge
- Easy Mode - For those new to real-time strategy or looking for a light challenge
- Intermediate Mode - For those familiar with real-time strategy who seek a fari and strategic challenge
- Hard Mode - For veterans of real-time strategy who are looking for a real challenge

How to Change Difficulty Settings
To change the difficulty settings, follow the steps below.
- Open the game and press the Settings button present on the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Now, navigate to the Game settings and select the difficulty option of your choice from the Campaign Difficulty drop-down box.
Remember, you can also change the difficulty option each time you begin a particular mission. It is present near the Play button.
