Can Diglett and Dugtrio be shiny? Rates and how to get

Digging underground won't hide its sheen.

Shiny Pokémon are rare versions of Pokémon in Pokémon Go that have modified looks. They are called shiny because they generally add a slight sheen or discoloration, making them stand out more than normal. In Diglett's case, the biggest difference between the normal and shiny versions is that normal Diglett has a pinkish nose and shiny Diglett has a blueish nose.

Shiny Rates

Apart from the Pokémon that don't have shiny versions in the game, every Pokémon has a base shiny rate that tells you how often you'll see a shiny version. Although this information is unconfirmed for Diglett, it is believed to have the standard shiny rate of 1 in 500 (about 0.20 percent). So, for every 500 Diglett you catch, you'll probably only get one shiny version.

How to Get

Dugtrio is a rare encounter in the wild, so the chance of randomly encountering a shiny one is extremely low. The best way to get a Shiny Dugtrio is to get a Shiny Diglett and evolve it.

Unfortunately, you cannot force a shiny Pokémon to appear. However, players can use a few tricks to make it easier to find them.

  • Play during events that feature Diglett. The upcoming Spotlight Hour that features Diglett will be hosted on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022. Spotlight Hours do not increase the shiny rate like Community Days do, but they vastly increase the amount of Diglett you see in the wild. It's possible to encounter hundreds of Diglett during a Spotlight Hour. If you keep your Pokéballs stocked and using Incense during the event, you've got a great chance of finding a Shiny Diglett.
  • Search for nests. Although the information shared on the site is never 100 percent accurate, the Nest Atlas provided by The Silph Road is a good start for finding specific Pokémon. Like Spotlight Hours, Nests do not increase the shiny rate, but they increase how often you see them in the wild.
