Pukei-Pukei Elemental Weakness

Pukei-Pukei's main weakness is thunder, so make sure to bring weapons with this element if you have them. Ice is an acceptable second option, though weaker than thunder, and fire is weaker than ice but does decent damage to the Pukei-Pukei. Dragon weapons should be your last resort, as the Pukei-Pukei takes minor damage from this element. Do not use water on the Pukei-Pukei, immune to this element.

Those using elemental weapons should focus their attacks on the Pukei-Pukei's Head, Tongue, Wing, and Tail, as these areas sustain the most damage.

If you are not wielding an elemental weapon, you want to attack places where you deal extra damage. These places on a monster differentiate depending on the weapon type you use—Cutting, Impact, or Shot.

  • If using a blunt weapon focus on the head and tongue.
  • If using a bow/shot weapon focus on shooting the head and tongue.

Pukei-Pukei Resistances and Ailments

The Pukei-Pukei has several substantial ailment weaknesses worth exploiting—Paralysis and Sleep are the most impactful on this monster. If you lack either of the above elements, Blast and Thunderblight are good alternatives while not as powerful as Paralysis and Sleep are. Do not use Poison on the Pukei-Pukei.

Pukei-Pukei Drop Rates - Carves, Capturing & Breaking

Depending on your quest, you can get different rewards to forge armor and weapons, but each has a drop rate percentage, ultimately RNG. It is pure luck what you receive.

  • There are multiple ways of gaining items
    • You can carving three times once the monster is dead.
    • You can capture the monster instead of killing it.
      • Or carving the broken appendage of said monster.
    • From looting the drops from the monster
    • After successfully compleing your quest

Most monsters have breakable parts, and Pukei-Pukei is no different. The Head, Wings, Back, and Tail can all break with enough pressure. If you break these parts during the hunt, you will earn extra rewards after completing the quest.

The tables below are the percentage and drop rates of each material from Pukei-Pukei, Low and High rank.
