How much RAM do I need for my Project Zomboid server?

Here's how much RAM you need for your Project Zomboid server.

When trying to host a Project Zomboid server, you are going to need to allocate RAM. To figure out how much RAM you will need, you need to calculate the number of players you'll have on your server.

In short, you will need to multiply 500MB per player you have on your server, plus a base 2GB. So If you plan on having two players, you will need to have at least 3GBs of RAM—1GB for the two players and 2GB for the base server requirement.

But if you want the smoothest experience, we always recommend adding 1 or 2 GBs extra if your system can handle it. You can also use the simple calculation of (500MB * number of players) + 2GB to figure out RAM requirements for different numbers of players.

How do I allocate more RAM to Project Zomboid Server?

To allocate more RAM to a Project Zomboid Server, you will need to open the game and view the Host Game option.

Under Host Game, you will see an option called Server Memory, click it, and a drop-down tab will appear, as shown above.

The tab will display various RAM amounts you can allocate to your Project Zomboid server. We recommend selecting one that fits the player number, the base server requirement, and your system specs
