How do Wards work in Final Fantasy XIV

Home is where the heart is.

Housing in Final Fantasy XIV is hotly contested, and getting a house is some of the most difficult content in the game. Fortunately, there are plenty of apartments for those who don't want to deal with the hassle of homeownership. But then the question becomes what Ward to live in? Also, what the heck is a Ward?

Players can think of Wards as neighborhoods. Except in this example, every neighborhood has the same layout. Wards are where homes are located. The plot number is akin to the house number.

In Final Fantasy XIV, five residential districts are available for players to purchase housing: Mist, Lavender Beds, The Goblet, Shirogane, and Empyreum. Each of the residential districts has 24 Wards. These Wards are essentially instances of the same area. From there, Wards are broken up into plots of 60. So, say you wanted to visit a friend's home. Their address would be [Server name] [Residential district] [Ward] [Plot] or Midgardsormr - Lavender Beds - W6 P24.

Not including apartments, there are a total of 7200 plots available per server. Compared with the hundreds of thousands of players that may reside on a server, housing is understandably difficult to obtain.
