Which is the best starter in Pokémon Black and White?

In the end, we all make a choice.

At the beginning of every Pokémon journey, you can choose one of three starter Pokémon. These tend to be a permanent member of your party, so this choice can be difficult to make. Some players prefer to go by aesthetic, typing, or value. For those in the latter category, you may be wondering what the best starter Pokémon in Pokémon Black and White is.

Best starter in Pokémon Black and White

You can choose between Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott as your starter in Pokémon Black and White. Ultimately, all three are a good choice, but we have to give the title of best starter to Tepig. There are multiple reasons why Tepig outshines Snivy and Oshawott, but you can pick any of the three starters in Pokémon Black and White and be totally fine throughout the game.

Why is Tepig the Best Starter in Pokémon Black and White?

Tepig, and its final evolution, Emboar, boast incredible Attack, Special Attack, and HP. They also have a great bulk that lets them live longer and take advantage of their raw power. Unfortunately, Emboar does lack Speed when compared to the other starters, but its survivability makes up for this.

Another aspect where Tepig shines is its typing. While the combination of Fire and Fighting has plagued Pokémon starters for several generations, this typing is great in Pokémon Black and White. Tepig has a type advantage over half the gym leaders and the Elite Four Champion. This means you will have a solid Pokémon against many of Pokémon Black and White's challenges.
