For Pokémon Scarlet & Violet fans hunting for the rarest of the rare, completing the Pokédex is just not enough. Collecting Shiny Pokémon, rare versions of Pokémon with a unique color scheme, frequently becomes the next goal after you complete the Pokédex. We're here to tell you that despite the fact all Shinies have about the same chance of being found or bred, not all Shinies are created equal. Sometimes the new color scheme is bland, or it's just not enough of a change. Here's our picks for the worst looking Shines in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
5 worst looking Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Meowscarada
Starting off this list with a starter Pokémon is unfortunate, but also unfortunately true. Sprigatito and its evolutions, Floragato and Meowscarada, change very little from the normal to Shiny versions. The largest difference being the change from pink accents to purple. As Meowscarada is a Dark-Type, there was ample opportunity to really play with darker hues for this shiny Pokémon, but it just wasn't done.
Brambleghast
Brambleghast doesn't have the most appealing design as it is. Although, it is a Ghost-Type Pokémon that generally fits the type. Its Shiny version is simply paler and more ghost-like, which still fits the theme, but doesn't make it very easy on the eyes.
Clodsire
Playing with Clodsire and seeing spikes pulse up from its back during battle animations feels pretty satisfying and unique. However, it's disappointing that Clodsire's Shiny version doesn't carry over that same feeling. Other than changing to slightly more blue hues, likely in a call back to the original Wooper and Quagsire, not much changes for Shiny Clodsire.
Flamigo
Flamigo's shiny version is just like the Pokémon itself, plain and boring. Arguably, it's color scheme is even worse than that of the normal version, as Shiny Flamigo feels even more realistic. Pokémon that veer to close in design to the animals they pull inspiration from seem, well, uninspired. Dashing Flamigo up with more vibrant colors would have been the better choice, in our opinion.
Maushold
Maushold's Shiny version takes washed-out to a whole new level, changing the Pokémon's blue pastel clothes to white without changing Maushold's white fur. They could have experimented with brighter hues or changed the colors of the mice, but instead chose to make Maushold one of the most bland Shiny Pokémon. This Pokémon's design of a growing family is adorable, but unfortunately its Shiny version just isn't.
