Genshin Impact: How to get Characters

Genshin Impact is finally released for free worldwide! The topic on everyone's mind now is how exactly are you going to acquire new members for your team. Well, it's not too difficult, and you can get them via various currencies that you will earn throughout the game.

MiHoYo is running various promotions to celebrate the release of the game. When you reach level 5, you will receive 10 Acquaint Fates. These are used to purchase from banners and get wishes. You will also earn a currency you can use to purchase more at level 7, and then again at level 10. So, starting out early in this game is a good idea to take advantage of these freebies!

How to Unlock Characters

To get characters in Genshin Impact, you will need to acquire currency that is used to purchase wishes from particular banners. Each of these banners can be found in the Characters menu, and depending on which one you purchase from, they will give you different chances to earn particular characters in the game. Some of these will be limited-time only and require different currency, others will give you a chance to get weapons as well.

Buying Banners & Wishing

Acquaint Fates are technically the beginner and intermediate type currency that will be used to purchase wishes from beginner and standard banners. There will always be a banner available that you can purchase from with this currency. The limited-time banners, will use Intertwined Fates, and will sometimes give you a chance to get limited characters or give you a higher percentage to obtain a particular character. For example, at the time of the launch of the game, there is a banner of the highly sought after Venti character.

You can decide to re-roll if you'd like, which can be useful for getting a powerful character or a five-star. However, do so at your own risk as there have been some rumors that this will be a banned offense.

It appears to be best to use all of your Acquaint Fates on the Beginner Banners. You can purchase a maximum of 20 of these, but after you purchase your 20th one you will get the Noel character guaranteed. Once you've done that, you should just purchase Standard Banners for the time being. These will also give you the possibility of getting a powerful weapon.

You will get some free Intertwined Fates during the release of the game, and you can also purchase them with the Primogems you collect as you level up!

Free Barbara Character

Good news for you F2P (free-to-play) players out there, and that is you can earn yourself the Barbara character for free if you are able to reach Adventure Rank 20 before Versions 1.1 goes live. While this isn't a crazy level requirement, it will take you a fair amount of time to reach it. You will want to start getting those levels in early, here's a guide on how to get this done faster:

Barbara is a Hydro character, which is a water type. If you are a F2P player, then you won't have access to one of these early on in the game. She is a pretty strong healer, so she will make a find addition to your team.
