Trail Ruins are one of the introductions brought in the Minecraft 1.20 update. Resembling ruined villages from a distant, lost civilization, they are both attractive to players and useful for their generation of unique resources, like suspicious sand. With the addition of archaeology to the 1.20 update, I couldn't wait to get my hands dirty, exploring this exciting update to the game. But the first problem I ran into was finding them in the world. How can I locate something that's actually buried?
How to locate Trail Ruins in Minecraft?
To successfully locate Trail Ruins in Minecraft, you must first know where to look for them. Here is the list of biomes they most commonly spawn in:
- Jungle
- Old Growth Birch Forest
- Snowy Taiga
- Spruce Taiga
- Taiga
The Trail Ruins are a new part of the 1.20 update's Archaeology feature, and will typically be buried underground with only a tip sticking out of the earth, so you must pay close attention to your surroundings while looking for them. They tend to spawn much more exposed in a Bedrock version of Minecraft than in Java, so you will have a much easier time finding and unearthing them if you play the former.
The typical signs of Trail Ruins that you should look out for are terracotta blocks sticking out of the ground. This formation is the tip of the central structure, the only part of the ruins sticking out of the ground. The rest of the structure is typically buried in gravel, dirt, coarse dirt, and suspicious gravel, the last of which you can spot easily, making it another tell that a Trail Ruins structure is nearby.
What can be found in Trail Ruins?
Trail Ruins are part of the new Archaeology feature and, as a result, are filled with Suspicious Sand and Suspicious Gravel. These can be examined to find four Armor Trims. Armor Trims can then be used at a Smithing Table along with a piece of armor and an Amethyst Shard to add an Armor Trim.
