There are many types of rocks and ores in Genshin Impact. Typically, you'll be able to break them easily using Zhongli's pillar, or the attacks of other Claymore characters. However, there are some brightly colored orange rocks, Amarita Rocks, in the northern most part of Sumeru's desert that can not be broken by traditional means. Here's how you you break them without frustration.
How to break the orange glowing rocks in Sumeru’s Desert in Genshin Impact
To break these rocks, you must use Sorush, who you'll gain as a companion during The Splendorous Sky That Day World Quest. Once you are controlling Sorush, fly up high and look for Nirodha Fruits, which are usually found growing in high places. They may be well out of site. Take your time looking around. Just remember that Sorush can't fly too far from your player character.

When you interact with Nirodha Fruits, Sorush will gather them and take them with her. You'll then be able to use a prompt to drop the fruits, like they are bombs. Drop the fruits on top of the orange glowing rocks to break them. This is the only way to reveal what is underneath.
Frequently, Amarita Rocks will be hiding Farrwicks needed to solve other puzzles, like Burgeoning Spirit puzzles. Others may be hiding special four-leaf sigils that Sorush can move, again, to help you solve other puzzles.
