Is the Triforce in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

The Triforce is a powerful tool.

The Legend of Zelda's iconography is some of the most recognizable in gaming. Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are obvious examples and can be pointed out by those who have not even played the games. Other iconic symbols are the Master Sword, the Hylian Royal Crest, and the Triforce. With The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releasing on May 12, 2023, many may be wondering what the Triforce is and whether it will appear in Tears of the Kingdom.

Will the Triforce return in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

There is no official confirmation that the Triforce will appear in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This relic was destroyed before the events of Breath of the Wild, allowing Calamity Ganon to reach havoc on Hyrule. However, fans speculate that the Triforce will return, and the Tears in the game's title refer to broken pieces of the Triforce.

Redditors have discussed this theory, believing that Link, Ganondorf, Zelda, and other characters will use pieces of the Triforce throughout the game. According to the theory, they almost act like Infinity Stones from Marvel, giving the wielder extreme power. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted various characters wearing tear-shaped stones of different colors. This is good evidence, and I personally think it is enough to suggest that the Triforce will return in Tears of the Kingdom.

What is the Triforce? - Zelda Lore

The Triforce is a sacred relic in the Legend of Zelda series. It is split into three triangle pieces representing Courage, Wisdom, and Power. These represent the three Golden Goddesses and, in the same order, Farore, Nayru, and Din. This item can control all of Hyrule, allowing the user to shape reality and fulfill their desires, making it Ganondorf's most desired item. Link commonly seeks the Triforce to protect it and thwart Ganondorf's evil plans.

Hylia, a younger goddess introduced in Skyward Sword, was tasked with protecting the Triforce and guiding the people of Hyrule. Hylia sacrificed her divinity when the forces of evil under Demise attacked, and she was reincarnated as a mortal through Zelda. This would begin the reincarnation cycle, with Link representing courage, Zelda representing wisdom, and Ganondorf representing power.

This theme of threes and reincarnation is heavily prevalent throughout the Legend of Zelda series. While the Triforce doesn't appear in every game, it plays an extremely important role in the series and has become an iconic symbol in gaming. The Triforce is the most prominent symbol in The Legend of Zelda, so it would be no surprise if Nintendo revisits it in Tears of the Kingdom.
