Why you should choose Stamina over Hearts in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Link could really use a 5 Hour Energy boost.

In Breath of the Wild, Hearts versus Stamina was a pretty big debate as to what players should be upgrading through Hylia statues. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks like a totally different situation, though. Link is going to need a very specific skill set to even get through the Great Sky Island at the beginning of the game. Here's what I think you should go for in Zelda TotK.

Should players upgrade Stamina or Hearts in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

To be successful in Tears of the Kingdom, players will definitely need to prioritize Stamina. Exploring Sky Islands while completing shrines can be a long process, and the more Stamina Link has for this, the better. Different parts of the Sky Islands are very far away, which means Link needs the Stamina to reach other islands (as well as the tops of mountains), make it across bodies of water, and more.

Playing through The Great Sky Island, it was remarkable how many situations I found where I wanted more Stamina. There are several areas where Link needs to dive into a body of water. I died a couple of times because I ran out of Stamina after these dives trying to reach the shore.

Tears of the Kingdom also forces the player to get at least one extra Heart first to open the door to the Temple of Time. With four Hearts and some good meal prep, Link can make it a pretty long time before dying. Of course, if players find that they die too easily, they can also grab more Hearts later on. Don't forget about fruits like Hearty Durians, though, which give Link extra Hearts.
