Escape From Tarkov The Extortionist Quest Guide

The Extortionist is one of many quests players must complete to level their reputation with the merchant Skier in Escape From Tarkov. However, while trying to survive the Tarkov grind, I learned some quests are straightforward, such as the Long Road, but The Extortionist quest is another matter. So, we created this guide to show you how to complete The Extortionist quest. 

How to complete the Extortionist Skier quest in Escape From Tarkov

To complete the Extortionist quest in Escape From Tarkov, you must find and collect the Secure Folder 0048. Finding the Secure Folder is tricky as you must loot the item from a locked cabin on the map Customs. To unlock the cabin, you must have an unknown key. When you have the unknown key, you can use it to unlock the cabin and find the Secure Folder 0048 inside. Grab the folder, then complete the quest by extracting with it alive and turning it into Skier.

Where to find the Unknown Key in Escape From Tarkov

To find the unknown key in Escape From Tarkov, I recommend spawning on Customs and running over by the RUAF roadblock extract. A short walk from the blue gate, you can find a dead Scav with the key on their body. However, despite having a 100 percent spawn rate, someone may have looted it already. Luckily, the dead scav is hidden well inside some bushes, so chances are it's still probably there waiting for you. You can find the dead scav in the following location shown below.

The location shown above is represented by the below screenshots in-game. Walk up to the body and press the interact key to loot the Scav. We recommend going prone while you loot so you are not out in the open. If the Scav doesn't have the key, you can find it on other dead Scavs, Jackets, and Drawers. As a side note, looting the aforementioned scav completes the optional objective of finding the messenger's body.

Where to find Secure Folder 0048 in Escape From Tarkov

Once you have the unknown key in Escape From Tarkov, you can find the Secure Folder 0048 in a cabin—a brief run from where you found the unknown key. Check the map below to see where you need to go to find the cabin. 

We recommend using cover as you make your way to the cabin, as it is a hot spot for AI and player activity; there may also be players camping at the quest item location. Make sure you pick the key up; I made the mistake of not doing so, and trust me, walking back to get the key is not worth the aggravation. If you have trouble finding the cabin, look for a tall blue crane platform shown below. 

You are in the right place if you see a crane platform like the one above. You can find the cabin you need to unlock near the crane shown below. Inside the cabin, there is a jacket sitting on the floor. The coat contains Secure Folder 0048; you must extract it alive to complete the quest. Because of this, we highly suggest you head right for an Extract if you want to complete the quest fast. Luckily, you can use tools such as map genie to help you find the nearest extract. 

The Extortionist Escape From Tarkov Quest Rewards

Upon turning the Secure Folder 0048 to Skier, players will earn the following rewards from The Extortionist quest:

• One BNTI Zhuk-3 body armor.
• 120 366 TKM EKO ammo.
• One Molot VPO-209 carbine.
• 500 USD (increases up to 575 with level two in Intelligence Center). 
• 3k EXP.
• +0.4 rep with Skier.
• 3 AK 7.62x39 30-round mags.
• Unlocked Remington Model 870 for purchase.
