Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Preload, File Size

The fifth expansion for Destiny 2 is almost here. Are you ready to head to the snowy moon of Jupiter called Europa in Destiny 2: Beyond Light? Destiny 2: Beyond Light preload

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is getting a preload; it will be available to begin downloading sometime in the evening of November 9th, which according to Bungie, should give everyone at least 10 hours of downloading time before Beyond Light becomes playable.

However, due to the changes in the massive overall size of Destiny 2, Beyond Light will be a full re-download on all platforms. This means the entirety of Destiny 2 will have to be downloaded again with the fifth expansion. Even if you already have the game fully up-to-date, it does not matter; it will still have to be re-downloaded again.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light file size

The file size for Destiny 2: Beyond Light is between 59 and 71GB, depending on what platform you are playing on. This download is the full download of Destiny 2, as the full game has to be re-downloaded in order to play Beyond Light. However, due to Bungie's tweaking and optimizing, this download is actually 30 to 40% smaller than what it would be if Bungie kept everything the same. - this reduction is quite a monumental feat.

This culling of content will help Bungie control the file sizes of other expansions and games in the years to come. Though you might have to re-download the game again for Destiny 2: Beyond Light, we doubt you'll ever have to do this again with any upcoming expansions.
