The developers have been busy adding content to Sons of the Forest, and with Update 7, we've had the largest content boost to date. Among many things added is the rifle, which immediately became a competitor as the most powerful weapon in the game, right next to the shotgun. Personally, I don't think you can ever get enough firepower in this game, and when the update dropped, I couldn't wait to try it out. But to have fun with the new hunting tool, you'll first have to find it!
What is the Sons of the Forest Rifle location
To find where the rifle is stashed in Sons of the Forest, you'll have to head over to the Cultist Cave, the same location where you can find Night Vision Goggles and the Golden Armor. Note that there are two entrances to the Cave system, but you can only access the rifle by using the one by the lake on the eastern side of the map. Use the image below to be sure you're in the right place.

- Before attempting to get the rifle, make sure you've obtained the Rebreather first.
- Once you enter the Cave system, keep hugging the right wall, fighting mutants.
- Once you come up to the first fork in the road, you will see two orange lights in the darkness: the exotic ores coming out of the rocks. Go right.
- Go down the cave and into the water. You will need a Rebreather for this section.
- After you swim out, keep following the cave until you see a small fork in the road. This game's light is infamously bad, but golden lights represent the forks. Again, choose the right path. There will be three to four mutant babies along the way.
- At the end of the short cave, you will come up to two bodies of mercenaries; the one on the right will hold the Rifle. Pick it up, and also take a pack of ammunition.
- Return to the surface by retracing your steps since that's the quickest way. If you want to explore the Cave system further, take the left path at the second junction.
The rifle has fairly high damage per shot. However, remember that you'll have a long reload time and low ammo capacity. Don't fight bosses with it because the shotgun is still a better choice for that task. The rifle is great for taking single targets down at a distance, such as a single sentry in the forest.
