What is Skyblivion? Release Date, Roadmap, Platforms, and more!

Is it legal?
Recommended Videos

Elder Scrolls games have often been the subject of expansive and creative fan projects, like the Skyrim Together Reborn Mod that allows multiplayer in Skyrim. Now, the TESRenewal Modding Group is aiming to release Skyblivion, a remake of Oblivion with the Skyrim engine, by 2025. Due to its requirements, it is also legal.

What is the Release Date for Skyblivion?

TESRenewal Modding Group has confirmed they want to get Skyblivion out as soon as possible. The reality is that Skyblivion is a massive project that has already taken years of work. In January 2023, a definitive latest-year release was announced. At the latest, Skyblivion will be released in 2025.

Roadmap for Skyblivion

There is not a strict roadmap for Skyblivion that one would find with a bigger gaming project. Rather, the current roadmap is a plan for a release by 2025. TESRenewal Modding Group hopes to complete the project earlier but does implore volunteers to sign up to help if they wish to release the game earlier. As of June 2023, the team states they are about 1/3 of the way through the project.

What platforms will Skyblivion be on?

Due to the nature of Skyblivion, it will not be available on consoles. You'll only be able to play the game through PC. You'll also need to own both Oblivion and Skyrim on PC to be able to play Skyblivion.

Will Skyblivion be free?

TESRenewal Modding Group has confirmed that Skyblivion will be completely free of charge. This aligns with the volunteer nature of the project itself. Keep in mind that you need to own Oblivion and Skyrim on PC, so you may have to pay if you don't currently have both games.

Technically, Skyblivion will work more like a game mod, placing it in a safer area of legality. As far as we could determine, it looks as if Skyblivion is legal to make and play, since the game models itself after a game mod structure.

What is Skyblivion about?

Simply put, Skyblivion is a remake of Oblivion. The remake will place Oblivion in the same engine as Skyrim, which aims to give it a major refresh. Those who have played or seen gameplay footage of Skyrim will note the similarities in the trailer for Skyblivion. The quests, characters, and setting should all mirror the original Oblivion. At the end of the day, this is more of an aesthetic overhaul and remake than it is a new game.
