Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Playable Characters

To unlock all the playable characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, you must play the main story, and in each chapter, you'll unlock more characters. All playable characters have required missions to complete before they join the roster.

You can play as numerous characters as you progress through the Age of Calamity, and even some special characters that unlock in the later chapters of the game. However, these special teammates require more than just playing a mission and unlocking them.

Main characters

Link - The Battlefield of Hyrule

Link is available from the start of the game; who would have thunk?! Right from the get-go, you can control the main hero from Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as he goes charging into battle before he becomes Princess Zelda's knight. Link is unique, as he can use multiple weapons in combat when other characters are limited to a certain type.

Impa - The Battlefield of Hyrule

During the first starting mission, halfway through, you get to play as Impa. Then after this mission, you can swap between Link and Impa during every mission!

Zelda - Guardian Amok

You will get to play as the Princess herself in the second story mission, and she plays nothing like she does in Hyrule Warriors, though that isn't a bad thing. As the characters are based on how they would fight in Breath of the Wild, not using numerous other Zeldas as the original Hyrule Warriors did.

The Champions

Urbosa - Urbosa, The Gerudo Chief

In chapter 2, you have to play a stage in Gerudo Town. During this stage, you play as your selected character, but halfway through, Urbosa joins the fray, and you'll be able to control her as you battle off the Yiga Army.

Daruk - Daruk, The Goron Hero

Head to the area of Death Mountain in the Eldin Region, prepare for the intense heat of the volcano, as you fight against different enemies, and you even get to control Vah Rudania! That's right, the Divine Beast.

Mipha - Mipha, The Zora Princess

Zora's Domain is where you will unlock the Zora Princess. Play as Mipha as you protect her kingdom from enemies and even a Lynel! Though, like Daruk, you do get to control her Divine Beast, Vah Ruta, during the battle.

Revali - Revali, The Rito Warrior

Travel to Hebra, and play the mission the Tabantha Frontier. However, this mission is different from the rest, as you'll be taking on Rito warriors and then engage with a boss fight against Revali himself! Defeat him, and you'll unlock for your roster.

Special Characters

Hetsu - Freeing Korok Forest

To get Hetsu as a playable character, complete the first part of the Freeing Korok Forest quest, and after you've slain enemies to clear a path, you'll encounter Hetsu. He'll eventually become playable in the mission and then finish it, and he will join the roster.

The Great Fairies - Fairy Fountain: Battlefield

You'll unlock the Great Fairies in chapter 4, and of course, very befitting of the Fairys costs 4500 rupees to start the Trial of the Great Faires stage. After this mission is completed, you'll unlock three additional challenges that you have to complete, Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows, Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains, and Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands.

Once the challenges are completed, you'll unlock one last stage, the Fairy Fountain: Battlefield, and then the Great Fairies will combine into one and be unlocked as a playable character.

Monk Maz Koshia - Trial of the Ancients

To get the Monk Maz Koshia as a playable character, you must complete the material requires for The Trial of Monsters, The Trial of Stones, and The Trial of the Mighty Stone. After those trials have been completed, you'll unlock the final trial, the Trial of the Ancients, where you have a time limit of 3 minutes and 30 seconds to defeat a boss. Nail this, and Monk Maz Koshia is yours.
