Starfield can’t move in first person – How to fix

A wild bug has appear.

I've spent hours exploring the Settled Systems piloting my ship and fighting off space pirates in Starfield. In true Bethesda fashion, I've encountered various bugs along the way; but when I got stuck in first person, I was afraid I'd have to reload a save. Luckily, I figured out a workaround for this frustrating bug. Read on to learn how to fix it in your next session.

This bug most commonly occurs when getting off a ladder or while switching from third person. Once stuck, you won't be able to move or look around. Fortunately, there are some easy fixes. Here is how to get unstuck from first person in Starfield:

  • Holster your weapon/go to a new instance.
  • Switch to third person.

Holstering my weapon has fixed the issue nearly every time it happens. Sometimes, I have to holster my weapon twice for the fix to trigger, but once I've done this, I can move freely again. If you still cannot move, try fast-traveling to a new location to reload the instance, but I've only had to do this once. Holstering your weapon is a much faster method of fixing the issue.

You can also switch from first person to third person. Doing this allows me to move freely, but when I switch back to first person, the problem often persists. I recommend sticking with the above solution of holstering your weapon since it seems to be more consistent.
