In Starfield, you can install different modules to your ship that add new qualities or buffs it doesn't have by default. Scan Jammers, for example, will prevent your ship from being detected while traveling with contraband. This is an excellent tool to slip under the radar of law enforcement while carrying illegal cargo. Here's where to get Scan Jammers for your ship in Starfield.
Where to purchase Scan Jammers in Starfield
You can purchase Scan Jammers from Lon Anderssen at The Red Mile (Porrima III, Porrima System), and from Jasmine Durand of the Crimson Fleet at the Key (Kryx System). I'd recommend visiting The Red Mile as it is easier to reach.
Select the "I'd like to view and modify my ships" dialogue option while speaking to Lon Anderssen at The Red Mile. Once the ship screen opens up, press B on the keyboard to enter shipbuilder mode. In this mode, you can attach new modules, modify current parts, and upgrade your spaceship with more options. Press G on the keyboard to add a new module to your ship and scroll to the Equipment section (shown in the image above). Here are all the Scan Jammers you can purchase from this vendor:
- Scan Jammer - Single-Frequency: 2700 Credits, no skill requirement.
- Scan Jammer - Dual-Frequency: 4500 Credits, required skill Starship Design Rank 1
- Scan Jammer - Multi-Frequency: 9000 Credits, require skill Starship Design Rank 2
The Single-Frequency Scan Jammer doesn't have a skill requirement, but for the other two, you need to rank up Starship Design. Likewise, you'll get these ship parts at a discounted price by having the Commerce skill unlocked. Additionally, investing in the Deception skill allows you to convince law factions while being scanned for contraband before entering a planet.
How to use Scan Jammers in Starfield
To attach a Scan Jammer to your ship, enter the shipbuilder mode and purchase the item under the Equipment section. To install it, purchase an Equipment Plate from the Structural section. Attach the Equipment Plate on top of an open slot, usually, it is easier to install it on the top of Habs (as shown in the image above).
Once the Equipment Plate is installed, select the Scan Jammer, and attach it on top. You can install multiple Scan Jammers by following the same process. You can also add Shielded Cargo on your ship to make it easier to smuggle different types of contraband.
