Spider-Man 2 has a total of three skill trees for you to dump points into as you're leveling up throughout the game. Peter and Miles have their own separate trees and one that's shared between the two of them.
Skills are the best way to customize Peter and Miles according to your preferred playstyle. Here's a look at the best skills for both of them as you level up and fight villains.
Best shared skills for Peter and Miles in Spider-Man 2
When you start getting skill points, you might be excited to spend them on your favorite Spider-Man. However, you should spend some time prioritizing the shared skill tree early on, as that'll make progressing through the game a lot more manageable.

You'll get abilities that let you travel through the city faster, disarm enemies, and unlock more gadget charges. One of my personal favorites has been the Wall Thrash ability that's on the left side of the shared tree; it grants a finishing move where you pummel an enemy against a wall. Slingshot Launch, the first skill you unlock, is a fun one because it's a new mechanic introduced in Spider-Man 2. These are some of the best from that shared tree:
- Slingshot Launch
- Bounce Up
- Wall Thrash
- Web Line Double Takedown
- Web Whip
- Air Swap
Ultimately, the shared tree will benefit you throughout the game with simple upgrades, and the individual trees are where you'll see your big power hikes. If I had to start over, I'd focus on the left side of the tree first.
While you'll end up getting all of the skills, early on you have to choose which tree to invest in. You hop around playing the different Spider-Men often, which is why you should focus on the shared skill tree first.
Best skills for Peter in Spider-Man 2
When it comes to Peter's skill tree, you don't have any other choice but to invest in the right side of the tree. These will improve your combat capabilities, and once you unlock the Symbiote branch, you can start investing in that instead. This does leave you with less versatility than Miles' early-game tree, but it'll still make you feel stronger nonetheless. Spider Rush, Shock, and Barrage are seriously powerful abilities.
You don't have many options without progressing through the game further, so you can just take these skills at first:
- Spider Whiplash
- Spider Rush
- Spider Shock
As you progress and unlock the next branch of the tree, you can start grabbing the Symbiote moves. This will happen naturally as you go through the main story. It might be a better option to put points into the shared tree until you get the other half of the tree unlocked, but it's really up to you. Symbiote Strike, Yank, and Blast will be well worth your time once they're available.
Best skills for Miles in Spider-Man 2
Compared to Peter, Miles has many more options available in his tree to start. Nevertheless, you have to go straight down his tree at first to unlock the other sections. This means six skill points will have to be dumped into things you may not want, but luckily, skill points are plentiful early on.
From there, I'd go after his Chain Lightning upgrades for their crowd-controlling capabilities. Miles has a lot more at his disposal than Peter with these moves, so it's important that you take advantage of them. These are some of the best moves in the Miles tree:
- Venom Dash
- Venom Punch
- Venom Jump
- Chain Lightning: Power Overwhelming (big fan of this one)
- Venom Clouds
- Critical Venom Stun
The cool thing about Spider-Man 2 is there aren't any completely useless moves or abilities. If you find yourself going down a part of the tree you don't like, it's not the end of the world. You level up fast enough to alter course whenever you need to.
